Seller's comments about 1966' Ford Mustang
The reconstruction of a legendary sports car - the GT350R Replica. At the end of 1964, Shelby America began conversion of a series of Ford Mustangs - all in Wimbledon White and with the 271 hp 289 Cui V8 engine. The vehicles were delivered directly by the Ford Factory in San Jose. The converted cars were referred to as Shelby GT350 because it is around 350 feet distance between the Shelby main manufacturing building and the engine production building. The optimizations on the engine and the exhaust system increased the power to over 300 hp. The modifications included a Cobra intake bridge made of aluminum with greater inlet, a 725 CFM Holley 4-fold carburetor, Cobra valve lid made of cast aluminum and an enlarged oil pan with 6.5 liters. The exhaust system consisted of two "Try-Y" exhaust gaps with two fluffy pots with a reduced dust pressure, the system ends in two side pipe end pipes in front of the rear axle.
The modifications to the body consisted of a fiberglass bonnet with NASCAR hood closures, a functional air supply and a simplified grill with the Mustang logo, as later became the standard for the 69 Mustangs. All 65 GT350 were Wimbledon White and with blue "Lemans" racing stripes. The interior modifications consisted of a sportier instrument panel with additional displays and a wooden steering wheel. Furthermore, the back seat was removed and a spare wheel was placed instead. The GT350 was therefore classified as a SCCA racing series sports car. The Shelby Vin Type sign was placed directly on the Ford type shield. 562 pieces were built in 1965, including 521 road versions, allegedly 34 racing versions called GT350R, 4 drag race versions and 3 prototypes.
