Seller's comments about 1964' Jaguar Mark 2
555 CBY is an incredibly special, and largely original matching numbers car that comes with a magnificent history from new. This beautifully presented Jaguar MKII has covered 48, 200 miles from new, has had five owners from new and comes with an exceptional history from new to include its original service book, Brown ‘buff’ logbook, MOT records and a huge comprehensive file of invoices for maintenance throughout its life. First registered on the 18th March 1964 and finished in Golden Sand, the MKII stayed with its first owner in Croydon, Surrey until 1974 when the car had covered 23, 240 miles. It had been maintained by the same Croydon garage for much of its early life with several service stamps in the original book.
The second owner bought the Jaguar in 1974 and covered over 20, 000 miles in the car, taking the mileage to 44680. The Jaguar stayed with its second owner in Purley, Surrey for over 40 years, parting with the car in 2017. A comprehensive file of invoices accompanies the car throughout its long term ownership recording high quality maintenance that has kept the car in outstanding condition. The cars third owner kept the car from 2017 to 2020 and covered just 620 miles, and then its fourth owner in Shropshire covered just over 2000 miles since 2020, taking the total mileage from new to 47, 650. We sold the car to a customer in Cheshire in early 2023, we fully serviced the car Jaguar ahead of delivery and its covered over 500 faultless miles. The recent owner has now opted for a smaller classic having enjoyed driving the MKII over the 2023 classic car season.
A wonderful, unrepeatable handwritten fuel/ mileage log notebook accompanies the impressive history file and dates from the 11th May 1974 to 1988. The notebook also has a record of all maintenance with its second owner, accompanying the pages of invoices. The majority of work carried out was major servicing, but other upkeep included track rod ends, lower ball joint assemblies, new shock absorbers, new slave cylinder, new clutch (32995 miles), hoses, brake pipes and in 1980, all exterior trims were removed for a full re-paint. During the 1990's and 2000's the MKII was in storage with a Company in Sussex and invoices for this are with the car - the owner clearly thought highly of the car paying for long term professional indoor storage and annual MOT's and recommended maintenance for his very light use. In 2002 the owner also paid for the installation of power assisted steering.
Before selling the car in 2017, the second owner had the MKII prepared ahead of it changing hands for the first time in over 40 years and work included overhauling the braking system, new parts included front and rear rebuilt brake calipers, brake pads and rebuilt master cylinder. Rear hub oil seals were replaced, a new battery fitted and the car then MOT tested. In 2018 after selling the car, the carburettor was rebuilt and since then the MKII has been, like all of its life well maintained and has arrived with us driving beautifully, and in strong mechanical condition. 555 CBY presents incredibly well with a delightful paint finish, excellent original chrome work and the interior is quite simply unrepeatable as it retains a huge level of originality and still presents wonderfully. The headlining appears to be original and is excellent, the woodwork is impressive, carpets original and in lovely order and the leather is truly outstanding, and magnificently kept considering its almost 60 years old. The engine bay is largely original and very clean, the bodyshell exceptional with totally straight panels, and for the majority of the past 30 years it has been professionally stored in an excellent environment and still annually maintained. The car performs superbly with excellent oil pressure, a lovely gearbox, smooth overdrive and handles beautifully offering a comfortable and very much enjoyable driving experience.
This impressive low mileage car also retains its original tool kit and jack, and has to be one of the most original MKII Jaguars we have seen for many years. Its unrepeatable and is an absolute gem in every respect.
