Later “Dual Wiper” System. We are delighted to present for sale this 1968 Series 2a Land Rover, which has been rebuilt onto a Galvanised Chassis in times past, to a high specification throughout. Usually, when we write these adverts we stick to a set format – talking about the exterior, the interior, and the experience behind the wheel – however, in this case, and with a car of this level of finish and specification – it warrants a slightly different approach….Externally – we’d ask a prospective buyer to just look at it and tell us if they’ve ever seen a more handsome Series 2a than this – in this mid grey colour scheme, with limestone wheels and original galvanised cappings with matching bumper – we think this Land Rover is a complete and utter show stopper. There are desirable features everywhere one cares to look – the vintage number plates, the rear grab handles, the road biased tyres for superior road holding, the defender mirrors for superior visibility whilst driving, the new sand canvas to complement the sprayed bodywork finish, to the contrasting galvanised finish of the rear chassis – it is all just so, so nice throughout – both a credit to the team at HQ, and to the original rebuilder too.The inside is a similar affair – with deluxe matting to the footwells, and three new standard seats, all equipped with seat belts – two outer “over the shoulder” static belts, and a central lap belt. There is a heater with front de-mist, which is extremely welcome to prevent icing up, especially in the upcoming colder weather. The rear is unfitted, except for a load mat to the rear floor – if so desired, rear bench seats could be added to bring seating for seven including the driver for £595. It is great to see there are no nasty additions cluttering the dash – and later dual linked wiper system is not only far better at clearing water in the rain- but much more reliable than the individual wiper motor system of earlier variants.Out on the road, it is often the case that an experienced driver in the marque can tell if a Land Rover has undergone a rebuild – and this Series 2a is exactly a case in point. It delivers a much enhanced period drive – from the road biased larger tyres which give superior road holding, to the free wheeling hubs which aid fuel economy and limit axle wear, the Weber carburettor which yields superior power over standard and also the overdrive, which is a particularly welcome addition – not only to make the most of the additional firepower, but to reduce cabin noise, give a more relaxed cruise and give the best possible fuel economy possible in a period petrol set up. As you can imagine, we drive many Series Land Rovers at HQ every day – and this one is very much in the “top split” of period engine Series vehicles you could ever drive. In summary then – if you are looking for a Series Land Rover that you can pass down through the family as an heirloom or as an investment for the future, then this is surely worth considering…. whether you plan to use it on a shoot, to take the dogs to the beach, to take the kids to the pub or to attend your local car show – it’ll look just right wherever you plan to go… from the city centre to the countryside back lanes!Priced at £27, 995
