Seller's comments about 1972' Land Rover Series 3

For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 3 in Marine Blue (1972).
Petrol 2495cc (ported out version of the 2286cc with flat top carb). MOT & Tax Exempt. Galvanised Chassis. Bonnet Mounted Spare. Towbar and Electrics. Galvanised Rear Step. 7 Seater. Deluxe Interior. Photographs of the Rebuild on file. Numerous receipts from the Rebuild process, including the chassis itself & a large amount of previous MOTs. Safari Roof. Recent Exhaust.
We are delighted to present for sale this high-spec Land Rover® Series 3 Station Wagon, presented in Marine Blue with Limestone Wheels. This particular vehicle comes with not only receipts of the rebuild process, but also photographs too, along with old MOTs – thus giving a fantastic provenance for the new owner. It is quite uncommon that such bills and photographs survive when vehicles are sold by us, and this is a major benefit for those wanting the history to go with the vehicle, especially if you are looking to add to this throughout ownership. The vehicle has been garaged since the rebuild was carried out, too – always a positive to prevent degradation. We purchased this vehicle from an enthusiast who we have had vehicles from in the past, who had owned it since 2009.
Externally, there are lots of features one might hope to see – the bonnet mounted spare, recent bumper, vintage number plates, rear grab handles, larger defender style mirrors for better visibility, sliding side windows and alpine lights (only found on the Safari Roof), rear step to allow better access for passengers, and tow bar and electrics to allow towing – to name just a handful. It is good to see that the bodywork is of a spray finish too, rather than a roller or brush. In our opinion, we think it looks great – a good combination of period charm with modern upgrades to aid utility and usability – and we hope you agree.
On the inside, there are three new standard seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. Door cards have been fitted, and the seat box and bulkhead have been trimmed in black, giving a premium feel and increasing sound deadening to reduce cabin intrusion. It is good to see all three front seats are belted – with two inertia belts to the outside, and a lap belt to the middle seat. The rear houses a pair of twin benches, affording seating for seven occupants including the driver, with a load mat to the floor. It is good to see the roof retains a headliner, and the original vents are still there – handy for the summer months when more cooling is desired. What really sets these station wagon type vehicles apart is that they feel very light thanks to the alpine lights and side windows, thus feeling airy inside – pleasant for the occupants to travel in and making the driving experience easier due to good visibility all round.
Out on the road is where this Series 3 really shines though – a 2495cc petrol engine is fitted, which is a ported out version of the Series 3 2286cc, with flat top Weber Carburettor. This affords more power over standard, along with a great exhaust note – making getting to and holding speed an easier experience. Larger wheels and tyres mean that gearing is extended to make cruising a less tiresome experience. The rebuild and the money spent feel evident from behind the wheel… it has a well-sorted and ‘gone through’ feel for those who’ve driven many as we have. Coupling this with the deluxe interior, a pleasing period drive is offered, with the upgrades mentioned making things easier.
In summary, if you are looking for a Land Rover® which can carry the whole family without the usual concerns in regard to long-term ownership costs, then this could be for you. With a Galvanised Chassis, 7 seats, MOT & Tax Exemption along with Classic Insurance, this surely offers the potential buyer long-term peace of mind – an ideal vehicle to pass down through a family, or keep for a long period. We do not get Series 3s commonly which have such a specification with such a history file – so if you are in the market for something like this, it is well worth considering.
