In November 1967, Mercedes-Benz revised the S-Class that had only been launched two years before and eliminated all of the previous technical shortcomings with the introduction of the 2.8-litre models. The model, known internally as the W108, was internationally regarded as the benchmark in its class. The carriages exuded calm elegance without showing off, conveying prosperity in a very unexcited way. Solidity and quality were the essential features of this S-Class. Apparently built for eternity, they made a significant contribution to the image of Mercedes-Benz.
This Mercedes-Benz was registered on October 22, 1971 by the Kreissparkasse Wetzlar for its director. The SE was ordered discreetly in beige, with power steering and an electric sunroof, as well as a Blaupunkt radio. The manual transmission went well with the 160 hp, the double headlights and additional wide beams suggested a more active boss. When he retired in 1975, he took over the Mercedes. For the sake of correct bookkeeping, a vehicle valuation was created at 130,407 km at the time. In 1976 the 280 SE got a new rear axle. The car was given a new coat of paint as part of the repairs. Checkbook and invoices show that the Mercedes was always being serviced by the delivering Mercedes dealer. The last available invoice is dated September 17, 1986 at around 132,000 km.

In October 2009, the deregistered vehicle was presented at 145,842 km to obtain historical approval before the consignor bought it in November. He rounded off his Mercedes-centric collection with the showpiece and briefly registered it in his name before it was driven with vintage car license plates. This Mercedes looks back on 50 years of careful handling. In connection with the low mileage, the S-Class presents itself in excellent condition, as expected, with the interior being the crowning glory. Very simple, but of high quality, luxury 50 years ago was obviously not defined by the number of buttons, but by the solidity of the design.
