Seller's comments about 1935' MG K3

1935 MG K3 ReplicaKN based | Bayton Jones buildKN412For those not able to acquire one of the original 33 K3’s a number of replicas have be constructed by leading specialists. This one was completed in 2015 by Bayton Jones— and is one of only five K3 replicas they have ever built — reputedly costing in well excess of £200k to construct, featuring items like magnesium brake drums, Marshal supercharger and constructed on a KN chassis, giving it the correct proportions and stance associated with the original K3’s. The engine, front and rear axles are from the original factory KN also one of the last KN’s built by Abbingdon. Finally clothed with an exacting slab fuel tank body. Power comes from the 1087cc six cylinder engine with a Marshall supercharged, delivering lively, engaging performance entirely in keeping with the original K3 experience. A pre selector gearbox re-built by Tom Dark for the present owner, these gearboxes are perfect for spirited drives, and equally suited to competition and touring use.Acquired by the current owner in December 2016, it has been properly exercised and proven, including participation in events such as the Flying Scotsman Rally. This level of use is testament to the quality of the build and the confidence it inspires over longer distances. A key strength of this example is its usability. In addition to aero screens, it is fitted with a full windscreen, allowing for the fitment of a hood and significantly enhancing its practicality for touring and variable weather conditions. Further thoughtful details include a detachable steering wheel to aid access when hooded, and an adjustable driver’s seat—an uncommon and highly desirable feature in a pre war style competition car. The car feels light, responsive and eager, offering all the involvement one expects from a pre war MG, while remaining usable enough for regular enjoyment. For those who admire the K3 but wish to drive rather than preserve, this represents an exceptional opportunity. It offers the experience, appearance and engagement of MG’s most iconic competition model, supported by a modern, expert build and genuine event history. An event ready MG offering authentic, usable pre war motoring at its very best.
