Porsche 911 2.0 S "SWB" – January 1968
Exquisitely rebuilt to the smallest detail in 2021, this superb 911 with a short chassis is a recreation inspired by what would have been a “lightweight” 911 in its time, geared towards rallies. The basis of this machine is nothing less than a 911 S from 1968, that is, one of the last "Short Wheel Base" to leave the Zuffenhausen factory. The first and only registration of this 911 is Portuguese, having never left the national territory.
To complement and adorn the restoration, this Porsche has CIBIÉ auxiliary fog lights, painted in the body color “Bahama Yellow”, PORSCHE horizontal black stripes on the lower area of the doors, Fuchs rims with radial tires as used at the time, with 5th wheel spare steel, rear side windows in plexiglass with “gills” in the style of the mythical 911R, and external rubber locks for the luggage compartment and engine cover, which only serve a decorative purpose, as the original system has been kept operational.
Inside we can find several appointments related to the competition, always with a view to keeping the weight as low as possible. Of particular note are the bucket seats, replicas very similar to the RECARO originally used in the Carrera RS 2.7 lightweight (very rare to find nowadays), with SCHROTH Racing 4-point seat belts, manual opening system for windows without a crank, half safety arch (rollbar) as used at the time and the absence of a glove box cover.
Under the engine cover, there is a completely rebuilt engine, fed by Weber carburettors and a Facet Red Top fuel pump, a sports exhaust system with Bursch stainless steel manifolds and a Dansk racing pan with long tips, allied to the 901 gearbox from first to reverse. All these elements work in tandem to make for an even more interesting and immersive driving experience.
From the most knowledgeable collector to the most distracted passer-by, no one is indifferent to this piece. In addition to being a rare example and a beautiful car to look at, it is absolutely ready to turn the key and enjoy a peaceful walk along the seafront, attacking the curves of a mountain road, serving in day-to-day laps, taking to the track on a track day or competing in a regularity rally, typically like any other Porsche 911…
