Seller's comments about 1983' Volkswagen Golf

We are delighted to offer what is quite possibly one of the finest surviving examples of a Mk1 Golf GTI Cabriolet available today. This UK-supplied, RHD ‘83 Golf GTI Cabriolet has covered an extraordinary 12, 200 miles from new and is finished in the highly desirable and exceptionally rare “Triple White” specification. There were only 470 UK-market examples produced of the MK1 Golf GTI cabriolet so to have one in triple white is extremely rare. Finding one in this condition, mileage and originality elevates it into truly collector-grade territory. This particular Golf forms part of an exceptional provenance, having spent time in a former motor museum collection based in Birmingham called ‘The Patrick Collection’. The collection housed up to 250 vehicles spanning over 100 years of motoring history. The museum was built purely out of passion rather than profit, and its cars were preserved to an extremely high standard. This Golf GTI Cabriolet is a clear beneficiary of that custodianship and the collection stickers can be found around the Golf. It was also the star in a YouTube video titled ‘The Best VW Golf GTI In The World?!’ - details aboveFinished in L90E Arctic White, the paintwork presents beautifully, no dents, damage or corrosion. The body is arrow-straight and entirely free of modification. The car sits on its original colour-coded 13-inch ‘Tarantula’ alloy wheels, completing the iconic all-white aesthetic that defines the Triple White specification. It is really rare for ‘Tarantula wheels to be colour coded as on the majority of MK1 GTI’s they were silver. Evidence of factory-applied Waxoyl is still visible on the underside and under the bonnet, a rare and reassuring detail that highlights both the low mileage and careful storage throughout its life. The interior is nothing short of exceptional. The white cloth GTI sports seats, white trim and carpets remain in outstanding condition. Early in the car’s life, custom-fitted Karobe seat covers were installed specifically to preserve the original upholstery — a decision that has paid dividends decades later. As is often the case, cars with white interiors usually suffer heavily worn interiors; this example is a rare exception and stands apart from the vast majority on the market. The white manual soft top is in excellent condition and features the earlier twin-lever manual mechanism, widely regarded as superior to later electric systems. The manual ones are viewed as better due to the reduced risks of leaks and the increased boot space due to it not having such a large hydraulic system. As with all factory-built cabriolets, the car features reinforced structural seals underneath, compensating for the absence of a fixed roof.Power comes from the correct 1. 8-litre 4-cylinder, 8-valve fuel-injected 1781cc engine — a notable feature, as not all GTI Cabrios were fuel injected. This engine produced 110BHP which helps with its confidence on the road and can easily keep up with today's regular traffic. This engine had a cambelt replacement at 11, 000 miles and has been maintained correctly throughout its life. The engine bay presents superbly, retaining original finishes and even traces of protective wax, with no signs of corrosion. It has been religiously dry stored and is fully original which is becoming a rarity on early Golfs.A genuine show-winner and a cornerstone addition to any serious Volkswagen or modern classic collection. Opportunities to own a Mk1 GTI Cabriolet of this calibre are vanishingly rare — could this extraordinary Triple White icon be yours? On the market for £21, 995Located in North DevonUK and Worldwide Shipping can be arranged
