Brief description of the model:

Model 544 appeared in 1958. It was a modern, medium-liter car with a self-supporting body of a 2-door sedan. The front and rear windows have a modern bent shape. The car was produced with different types of engines ranging from 66 HP with a capacity of 1582ccm to 95HP for engines with a capacity of 1780ccm powered by two carburetors. High-power engines were mounted on Sport models.

The 544 is the first European car to be fitted with three point seat belts, which has given a reputation for both the vehicle and VOLVO's concern for passenger safety. The 544 model enjoyed a failure-free operation which the vehicles of that time did not have. The cast iron block and cylinder head have earned a reputation for incredible durability. This was due, among other things, to the fact that VOLVO published, for marketing purposes, factory engineered tests in which the dual carburetor B18 engines accelerated to a then dizzying 7,800 rpm and ran without failures. The modernity was complemented by the use of a 12V electrical installation. The cars were equipped with four-wheel drum brakes and a spacious trunk with a spare wheel.
