Commentaires du vendeur sur 1934' Singer 9 Sports 4
1930s Singers were technically far in advance of most other marques. This little 1934 tourer for example has hydraulic brakes, 12V electrics, OHC engine, twin carbs, and remote gear change. The 9 Sports 4 was extensively used in trailing and competition and is very similar to the models designated later as 9 Le Mans.
This is a part completed restoration and comes with correct and original registration number (recorded on DVLA system).
Probably unused since late '60s. Restoration known to be underway in 1971 and continued with 3 separate owners in the 1970s, but then not really touched since 1979. Always stored in dry surroundings by final owner who retained it until 2015 when a house move resulted in me acquiring it through a third party.
Comes with V5C registration document, Owners Manuals/wiring diagrams & loads of receipts + correspondence with Singer Owners Club..
Engine is fitted with of a pair of rare “downdraft” SU carbs which were a period upgrade .(The SUs were a factory option on the Singer 9 -Sports 4 although not very common.).
Receipts & inspection shows the following appears to have been done in the course of the original restoration prior to my ownership:-
Engine rebuilt with replacement crank from SOC. Receipts for fitting & re-metaling bearings etc Brakes rebuilt with new lines & hoses & slave cylinder seals etc - Suspension/ Chassis & Wheels all refurbished. Spring Rubber Silentbloc bushes all replaced. Ash frame repaired & some new alloy panels fitted in engine bay/ bulkhead areas Various items re-chromed Wings & Front apron replaced by GRP items sourced from SOC. Replacement wooden dash made to original pattern Steering box rebuilt New Steering Wheel to original pattern. Re-Wiring with new loom started.
Since acquiring the car in 2015 the following re-works have been carried out:- The engine has been briefly inspected and turns freely & smoothly. Likewise the gearbox was inspected and looked ok inside. Most of the components that were in boxes have been re-attached loosely to the car or cleaned an stored. Wheel cylinders re-built with Stainless Steel liners and New seals. Chassis and Suspension re-furbished and painted. Shocks have been stripped ,cleaned and painted awaiting new friction discs /bushes etc. Body shell(Green as purchased ) re-finished Inside and out in correct original color of Signal Red (Kindly Verified by SOC via original build records and chassis number etc)..Doors and bonnet bare metal re-spray. Windscreen and surround cleaned and fitted. Radiator and Shroud cleaned and painted. Under bonnet Engine Bulkheads and Side Panels re-furbished-cleaned/painted/polished. Rear floor Steel pans repaired,cleaned/painted. Wooden floorboards replaced/repainted. Fuel Tank re-Furbished and installed. Patterns for Interior Door Cards and Rear Squab Side Trims sourced. Handbrake assembly re-furbished and painted. Correct steering column to bulkhead mounting brackets re-furbished , painted and installed.
All the above re-work has been carried out to a good standard over the last 18 months.
Other things you might need to know There is a hood- but I've not really looked at it to see if/ how it fits. The car will need complete trimming but front seat bases are present and the trim style was simple and easily replicated.. Tyres on road wheels hold air but must be 40+ years old! Spare wheel tyre is damaged. Radiator shroud is damaged at the bottom and will need further repair. Has been cleaned and painted car color to tidy prior to future replacement/repair. Comes with some spares-New Badge Bar(needs assembly),Good condition Wiper Motor Assembly, shocks, windscreen supports, rear lights and various nuts bolts and fittings. yes... there are probably some small bits missing but most things seem to be present and correct
Finally... Rare to find a good condition part complete restoration with all of the dirty work done! The remaining work is straightforward . Spare parts and technical information are available through the helpful Singer Owners Club so you are not on your own.
