Comentários do vendedor sobre 1948' Packard Straight Eight Touring Sedan
Packard “Straight Eight” 1948 Custom Sedan Deluxe. I bought this magnificent specimen on impulse only a couple of months ago, motivated mainly by the fact it had eight cylinders, all of them located in a straight line. The last car I drove with that configuration, wore a more exotic Italian badge. I now realize that I still have too many other things which require my attention, so it should probably go, but I won’t be sorry if it doesn’t, because the other unexpected discovery was that it’s such a hoot to drive. The straight eight sounds wonderful and has a surprising amount of power and can easily keep up with modern traffic. Synchros are good (on second and third), shift is good, axle is quiet, and there are no oil leaks that I can see. Much more important, the body is unbelievably rust-free and very straight. Not sure whether any of it has been replaced, but if it has, they used original gauge metal, and the doors clunk shut nicely and gaps are good. All the detailing is intact too, like the badges and door handles, and as far as I can see, the dash is completely original. The main details, like the gauges and the piano key switches are all intact, as is the original radio, which still selects the stations even if it doesn’t receive. The vacuum powered wipers, controlled by the knob in the middle, actually work, but they aren’t very fast… There's a 12v alternator conversion, with a battery master switch, which if you've ever encountered original six volt electrical systems, is a massive plus. Interior is as you see, which is original style, and I’m fine with that. I have replaced the exhaust system and the local upholstery trimmer has agreed to sort the headlining kindly supplied by the previous owner, and the sagging bench seat, and maybe the carpets. There is a new damper on order for the front suspension, along with a water pump which has a slight dribble. Brakes were sorted before I got it. The slight downside is that the car has been painted… They didn’t do a bad job, just that if it had remained original, this advert wouldn’t be here… I'm up for interesting (and preferably smaller) part exchanges, or a swap (maybe plus a bit) for a Citroen DS.
