MJ 9198 was first registered on the 5th December 1935 and an original brown ‘buff’ logbook tells us the car was in Taunton, Somerset during the 1960’s. By 1982 after a long period off the road, the Austin was up in Scotland, and had one owner in Doune for 30 years. Invoices are on file for maintenance and upkeep during the 1990’s and 2000’s. In 2012 the Austin changed hands and back in England with new owners in Oakham. The Austin was MOT tested in 2012 and was enjoyed for six years until being supplied to the last owner in Malvern who purchased the car ahead of his daughter's wedding. Since purchasing the Austin it has had around £2000 spent on it to include an engine rebore and new cylinder head gasket. The Austin has proven very reliable and since the work, has completed a three hour run on the back lanes of the Forest of Dean without missing a beat. It's a strong, reliable Ausitn runs superbly and is on the button.
The Austin appears very original, particularly the upholstery that still retains its original seats and door cards. Its had new carpets and a gearbox cover, the headlining has been replaced and the running boards have been re-covered. Some of the wooden floor has also been replaced and from the paperwork it would seem the car was re-painted at some point within the past 25 years giving it a very original, authentic look. Bumpers have been re-chromed at some point many years ago, and the overall appearance suggests an honest ‘user' that wont win any shows, but will certainly offer lots of enjoyable and reliable pre war motoring. Lovely to still retains its original registration mark and 1960's ‘buff' logbook, the car offers good value and has come to us in part exchange against a Riley RM.
