Seller's comments about 1956' Jaguar XK 140

The Jaguar XK140 took over as Jaguars flagship sports car in 1954, it had a serious challenge, following in the tracks of the spectacular XK120. True, it looked a lot like the car it followed, but there were quite a few differences, too. The weight went up slightly, so did the power of the 3.4-liter, twin cam six, which was up to 190 horsepower in standard trim. As a result, performance remained on a par with its predecessor.

From introduction three bodies were offered: the open two seater, a drophead, and a fixed head with 2+2 seating. There was further model proliferation in that each of the three body styles were offered in three versions: the standard car, the M version with dual exhaust, wire wheels and fog lamps, and the MC, which received all the M equipment as well as the cylinder head from the competition C-Type. The top-of-the-line MC (known in the UK as SE) was rated at 210 bhp.

Although the basic chassis remained unchanged, the biggest difference was that the XK140 was fitted with rack and pinion steering, which improved the handling substantially.

This exceptional Jaguar XK140MC Roadster was built on October 13th of 1955 and the date of dispatch was November 30 of 1955. It is an original California car and originally delivered to Mr. Chas Hornburg of Los Angeles, CA. This is a matching numbers car and has the very desirable MC option with the C-type head and dual exhaust. We purchased this wonderful Jaguar XK140MC from the same owner of the past 30 years and it underwent a full restoration completed in 2021. It is a former JCNA show winner.

We recently invested close to $20,000 in making this car not only an exceptional show/driver, but also a wonderful road car with sensible upgrades and going through the entire car. This work was completed in June 2026 and includes, but is not limited to:

The front brakes were redone with new wheel cylinders and adjusted as needed.
New wheel bearings installed.
A new clutch kit was installed and adjusted as needed.
A new Ron Davis aluminum radiator with an electric fan was installed.
All bulb sockets for the interior lighting installed and now working properly.
A new fuel pump was installed.
Paintwork was improved where needed, then buffed and polished.
A new and complete Bell stainless steel exhaust system was installed.
New seat belts installed.
Original SU carburetors completely rebuilt.
A smaller diameter wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel was installed.
A new fuel sender was installed.
Turn signal rheostat rebuilt.
New heater fan motor installed.
A gear reduction/high torque starter was installed.
A new battery was installed.
Oil service completed and all grease fittings lubricated.
Underside and engine compartment steam cleaned.
A compression test performed with excellent results of 125 to 130 psi on all six cylinders.

Overall, this is one of the nicest Jaguar XK cars we've ever had. It is certainly the nicest XK140MC we've had in a very long time. It runs and drives excellent, and the aluminum radiator helps maintain temperatures during the warm North Carolina summers. The oil pressure is excellent once it settles at operating temperature. It is a pleasure to drive and handles very tight. These are wonderful road cars when they are properly sorted and are much better cars to live with and drive than their American competition. This exceptional example is ready for touring, driving, or showing.

At MotorCarTrader.com I take a different approach to buying and selling my classic Jaguar E-Types, XKs, and classic sports cars. Rather than pushing a large volume of cars through with only detailing and professional photography, I focus on mechanically sorting each car to make it an excellent and reliable driver. I have bought, sold, consulted on, and restored over 350 Jaguar E-Types and XKs, so I know them very well, understand how they are supposed to drive, and know which sensible upgrades make them even better. My cars are about value, the driving experience, and ensuring the heavy work is already completed. In addition, I am fully transparent about any imperfections or additional needs a car may have. I have been buying and selling classic sports cars for 30 years. Experience matters.
