The Geneva Motor Show in March 1963 was the scene of an extraordinary debut that was widely covered by the media: Daimler-Benz presented the Type 230 SL, a new sports car that was to replace two models from the previous sales programme: the 190 SL and the 300 SL. In some ways, the new model represented something of a compromise: the 230 SL, internally codenamed W 113, was neither an irreversibly tough roadster nor a mellow boulevard sports car – it was rather a comfortable two-seater GT with excellent handling and maximum driving safety. Apart from the wheelbase - the magic measure of 2,400 mm has been adopted unchanged - the new SL had almost nothing in common with its two predecessors. From November 1967, the SL was equipped with a 2.8 liter engine. Compared to the 250 SL, the engine power was increased by 20 hp and the torque was 10% higher. Aside from the model designation badge, the 280 SL could only be distinguished from the two previous models by its hubcaps. In eight years, a total of 48,912 cars were built from the three SL models of the 113 series. Due to their distinctive roof shape, the sports car models 230 SL, 250 SL and 280 SL are now commonly known as the "Pagoda".
The presented copy comes from the end of production, it left the factory in August 1970. After renovation in 2015, it was used by one of the members of Pagoda SL Klub Polska and over the years the project was successfully refined. The car is restored in accordance with the art, but it is not in a "competition" condition, from the mechanical point of view everything works flawlessly and allows you to enjoy driving a lot.
