Seller's comments about 1968' MG MGB
A hand built Special Sportscar with echoes of the Golden age of pre war motoring. Utilises predominately MGB components with traditionally styled 4-seat open coachwork, with flowing metal wings and a ingeniously crafted metal compound-curved boot and louvered aluminium bonnet. It also has a specially crafted nearside cab door, Bentley fashion, although access via running board is just as easy. All executed to a high professional standard over 40 years ago by skilled motor technician owner, who used the completed car as his everyday transport, covering many thousands of miles, in all weather, making many modifications and upgrades along the way.Inspired by cars like the MG K3, Riley Brooklands and Frazer Nash, the builder incorporated parts from various other vintage cars - the headlights are from a 1932 Riley, the (dummy) radiator is from an MG TC. Other features include wire wheels, with spare mounted on running board, bucket seats, capacious luggage space in the boat tail, fold-flat windscreen, external handbrake, headlamp stone guards. Badge bar hosting some rare pre war club badges. The fascinating story of the build is fully recounted in a 4-page feature in the June issue of a 1987 Classic Car Magazine (copy included in the history folder)The original MGB engine was fully rebuilt and according to a metal plate on the rocker cover, was tuned by fitting a Speedwell BMC Conversions kit, it certainly seems so judging by it’s unusually spirited road performance, healthy oil pressure and pleasingly sporty exhaust note. The following owner kept it for 30 years or so and rebuilt the front suspension in 2014, using MGB V8 parts, polybushes and exchange shock absorbers. Over 20 old MOT’s show that it has covered some 7, 500 miles since 1992.As can be seen from the photographs, this unique roadster looks most authentic and will prove a real talking point wherever it goes. Represents an unrepeatable opportunity to own a a one-off, expertly built Classic Sportscar, suitable for showing and long distance rallying for very modest outlay, the aforementioned vintage car badges alone, are worth around £1, 000.Comes with V5C, old green cardboard log book, 23 old MOT’s and road tax discs, workshop manual, full weather gear - hood, sidescreens and tonneau cover (all nicely patinated) road tools, raft of old invoices, 1987 press article. Also comes with a small suitcase, shaped to snugly fit contour of luggage compartment.Car located in Lytham St Annes in Lancashire, transport arranged at £1. 60 per loaded mile, but no problem driving this baby home and lots more fun.
