Seller's comments about 1965' Peugeot 404

All our vehicles are rigorously inspected before being put up for sale: more than 70 inspection points are checked (mechanics, chassis, bodywork, interior and accessories) + a full road test carried out by our workshop manager. Each vehicle also benefits from an engine compression check and/ or a cold oil pressure test (depending on the technical possibilities). Our vehicles are prepared in our specialist workshop for classic cars, sports cars and prestige models.Date first registered:05/ 01/ 1965Mileage (not guaranteed): 47788Drive: left-hand driveRegistration document: NormalNumber of seats: 4Number of cylinders: 4 in lineDisplacement: 1618 ccFuel: SP 98 + additiveDIN hp: 88Tax horsepower: 9Gearbox: Manual 4-speedBody colour: Rouge Capanelle 1333Interior colour: Black 3000Tyres: Front: new / Rear: new12-MONTH WARRANTY included* Delivery possible* Road-legalisation fees (option): €690 inc. The set is in very good condition, with no sign of impact or deformation. The 4 tyres will be replaced brand new prior to delivery. This example has retained its original spare wheel, its spare-wheel cover in black simili leather, as well as its jack.Among the interesting “Bodywork / Exterior” features and options it is equipped with, we noted:The simili leather hood cover in “black” colour as well as the CIBIE long-range spotlights.Interior:The interior has retained its strict original-period specification. The interior was also restored to match the original a few years ago. The overall presentation still looks excellent today. The “black 3000” simili leather upholstery with matching piping is in very good condition, with no signs of wear, rips/ tears or fading. The door cards matching the upholstery are also in very good condition despite the presence of two small cracks at the top of the driver door (4 cm).The body-colour dashboard and its simili leather dashboard cover are free from any notable defects. All the JAEGER dash instrumentation is perfectly functional. This example is fitted with a perfectly working SOFICA heating system (period option). The original bakelite steering wheel is in excellent condition, with no cracks or breaks. The simili leather gear knob is in good condition. We noted the absence of a clutch pedal rubber. The “black” carpet mats are in good condition, with no signs of wear or fading.Among the “Interior” features this example has, we noted: the original bakelite steering wheel, the SOFICA heating system and the JAEGER dash instrumentation.Chassis:Putting it up on the ramps confirms a sound bodyshell, with no visible accident marks or apparent structural corrosion.Replacement of the front and rear floor pans and of the two sills/ boutant arcs in 2026 (invoice: €7, 110).The essentials: sills, lower wings, wheel arches and longitudinals are in good condition.Usage reserve: as a matter of principle, we cannot guarantee perfect alignment beyond its good visual and functional condition confirmed during the road test and with the car on the ramps.During the dynamic test, we did not find any abnormal extraneous noises from the bodyshell or running gear (ball joints, bushes/ silentblocs...).The braking system was inspected/ serviced by a specialist during the maintenance carried out at 40, 000 km (invoice: €4, 157). On that occasion the following work was carried out: replacement of the front and rear brake cylinders, replacement of the mastervac and cleaning of the brake shoes. The brakes are aligned, stable and meet the standards of the period. The front and rear brake drums are perfectly functional and free from any sign of seepage.Passing the technical inspection carried out by our workshop prior to delivery will confirm that everything is functioning properly.Engine / Transmission:The mechanicals run perfectly. The engine was removed and restored in 2024 by a specialist (invoice available). On that occasion the following items were replaced: engine removal/ refit, 4-piston kit, new 4-cylinder liner kit, engine ring kit, and engine gasket kit.The engine compression readings and the road test carried out by our workshop confirm a healthy 4-cylinder.Starting is easy, with no smoke or abnormal noises, and the idle is stable—as confirmed by the 360° video with the engine running, available at the start of the slideshow.Under way, the engine pulls through cleanly without hesitation or overheating. The 4-cylinder sound is enhanced by the installation of a custom stainless-steel exhaust line. The gearbox works perfectly: all 4 gears engage and drop cleanly with no issues at the synchros. The clutch bite is good. The clutch was replaced at 40, 000 km along with the fork shaft (invoice available). As is often the case with older mechanicals, engine/ gearbox sealing remains average.Other similar vehicles are also available. 50 photos + engine running video on CLASSIC-A
