Seller's comments about 1964' Porsche 356

"At the beginning of the 1960s, Porsche began production of the Type 356B, a natural development of the Type 356, presented in 1949. With the new model, the manufacturing requirements were revised. Of the approximately 1,250 employees of the German brand, one in five out of five were dedicated to product quality validation, in an effort to keep Porsche's reputation for making quality sports cars intact.

The 356B version presented had as main improvements the replacement of parts inherited from the VW Beetle, while two new companies joined the list of body suppliers. Wilhelm Karmann GmbH in Osnabruck was responsible for the hardtop coupé bodywork, while Belgian Anciens Etablissements D'Ieteren was in charge of manufacturing the Roadster bodywork for the new Type 356.

The Porsche 356B featured bodywork differences, higher headlights, redesigned turn signals, new cooling fins, new bumpers placed higher up in the body and new license plate lights arranged on the rear bumper.

The transmission was improved with the latest Porsche synchronizers in the Type 741 gearbox, while the rear suspension received, on the more powerful versions, a leaf spring placed transversely, with a pivot at the output of the differential, in order to compensate for wheel movements. . The drum brakes were redesigned, with new transverse fins, in order to increase the cooling of the system in motion. The big news was the presentation of a new version of the four-cylinder boxer engine, with 1.6 liters of capacity, delivering 90 hp of power.

In 1961 the Porsche 356B underwent changes again, both mechanically and in terms of bodywork, due to the already traditional policy of updating the brand. Internally known as the “T6”, the coupé model had a larger rear window, the engine compartment cover gained one more cooling grille, becoming two, and a more rectangular boot lid. The fuel tank was now lower, increasing the carrying capacity of the trunk and the filler was hidden under a hatch on the right side.

Inside, ventilation was improved with the addition of adjustable flaps, the front seats received new guides and, on the coupé version, a clip was added to keep the seatbacks in an upright position. The windshield wiper motor now had a speed exchanger, and the water reservoir saw its capacity increased."
