This vehicle is in a Humbert & Ellis Timed Online Auction Ending 7pm Monday 25th May Please go to the Humbert & Ellis website to register to bid 1957 RAMBLER REBELThe rare 1957 Rambler Rebel was conceived by the American Motors Corporation (AMC) as a medium-sized, high-performance sedan car. It has since been lauded as the first factory-produced, lightweight muscle car, and is the forerunner of icons such as the Pontiac GTO and Plymouth Road Runner, cars specifically designed in a memorable phrase for 'kicking sand in the face of the 98-horsepower weakling'.Often cited as the first 'true' muscle car or the original 'sleeper'- it combined a lightweight intermediate body with a powerful V8 engine to deliver acceleration that rivaled contemporary sports cars. The 327 cubic inch (5. 4L) V8 engine producing 255 horsepower. It achieved 0–60 mph in approximately 7. 2 to 7. 5 seconds and was the fastest factory-produced American sedan of 1957, outpaced only by the fuel-injected Chevrolet Corvette.Despite its speed, it maintained the unassuming appearance of a four-door family car with a spacious interior.Featuring a unique silver-grey metallic paint job with bronze-gold anodized aluminum side panels. It used a unibody construction, which helped keep the curb weight relatively low at approximately 1519 kgs.It was intended to be the first mass-produced car with electronic fuel injection (EFI). However, due to reliability issues with the Bendix 'Electrojector' system, nearly all production units were ultimately equipped with a four-barrel carburetor. The 1957 Rebel is extremely rare today, as only about 1, 500 units were manufactured. Its limited production was due to a combination of its high price point ($2, 786) and AMC's broader focus on economy vehicles like the standard Rambler.AS THE MUSCLE CAR tag suggested, the Rambler Rebel's power and performance were somewhat at odds with its four-door configuration. Its 5. 4-litre engine was by no means America's largest, but the company hoped this would fit well with the hot-rod craze that was sweeping across America. It was just half a second slower than the Ferrari Dino more than a decade later - the aptly named Rebel had a top speed of around 115 mph (185 km/ h).Our example offered here is thoughts to be the only Rebel Rambler in Europe. Having been in the current ownership since 2012.Showing just 71956 miles, the vehicle starts, runs and drives beautifully. The exterior is in superb condition as is the underneath (see photos)The interior has been re-trimmed at some stage and still looks highly original and very smart as per photos. The engine bay is clean and extremely well presented as is to be expected. Two extensive history files accompany the car.Of the limited original production run of 1500 units;* 1031 had automatic gearboxes* 914 had the 'Continental' spare wheel on the boot (trunk)* Only 83 had air conditioning * Less than 30 now survive worldwide* THIS car has an automatic gearbox, Continental spare wheel AND air-conditioning and is known to be the only example of surviving in Europe.Offered as a singularly rare vehicle with original bill of sale and owners manual.Part of the history of early and original American muscle cars and with an estimate of only £12, 000-£15, 000, surely this is THE 'must have' vehicle for anyone who seeks a true left-hand drive V8 automatic American muscle car....This vehicle is located near Calne, Wiltshire SN11 from where it will need to be collected.Motorscan report and videos available on request.
