Exciting fast Riley, with excellent handling.
The car was built 20 years ago using spares which came with the 1935 2ltr Dobbs Riley. It is an evocation of the 1934 Racing Riley MPHs which ran at Le Mans.
The chassis is a replica Racing TT Sprite chassis, made by Nick Jarvis, fully-boxed and drilled, and it has the Dobbs brake cross shaft arrangement. The engine is a Riley 2ltr 15/ 6 works specification racing engine (15/ 2777) with 104. 5 stroke/ 63. 5 bore with a billet steel race crank and rods, with a ported head and inlet manifold, high compression pistons, hi-lift rockers, larger works gear oil pump and new timing gears and camshafts. It comes with a Scintilla or Lucas magneto. The engine is fitted with three 1 1/ 2" SU carbs and the last time it was tested produced 120bhp at 4, 750rpm, with loads of torque. The engine is running on R40 and was completely rebuilt 12 months ago.
The gearbox is an original works silent 3rd close-ratio unit, with gear lever extension. A race clutch is fitted and there is the original works clutch available. There are also spare gears for the box. This was also rebuilt at the same time as the engine.
The torque tube and rear banjo are lightened as per works cars and the brakes are 15" Aluminium. Elekton castings for the backplates and drums are available (unmachined). A 4. 5:1 diff is fitted which gives 21mph/ 1000rpm.
The car has an ali TT Sprite radiator and the correct Jaegar 6" Rev counter, speedo and matching gauges are fitted.
The bodywork is based on the 1934 Le Mans cars and although not concourse is in the spirit of the Riley works cars. It sits on 19" wheels with nearly new Blockley tyres.
This is a genuine 100mph pre-war sports car that cruises well on motorways and easily keeps up with modern traffic. It has not been raced but would be a perfect track car.
