This beautiful 1953 Riley RMF 2. 5 was meticulously restored to a near concours standard over a period of eight years by my sadly now deceased father, a retired qualified motor engineer. It has been a tough decision to make to now offer the car for sale after so much of his life went into the car, although it now deserves to be owned and cherished by someone who can appreciate and use it more than our family can.
There is far too much to list in an advertisment although I have listed as much as possible.
This Riley was originally registered 02/ 09/ 1953, one of the very last Riley RMFs produced fitted with the more powerfull and desirable 100HP 2443cc engine, I have the original 'Buff' green log book, preliminary instruction book along with comprehensive service history including service invoices dating back to 1955!
It was purchased by my father 06/ 12/ 2012 as a car in overhaul good condition however he took the decision, after restoring many cars previously including pre war Rovers, Mgs, Morris & Triumph to embark on a concours restoration on the Riley.
The body was removed from the chassis and totally overhauled including a complete new ash frame and vinyl roof. The chassis, components, braking system and running gear were totally dismantled, refurbished as required, rust proofed, painted and refitted along with a new clutch. The engine was fully rebuilt by a local engine reconditioning company including rebore, new pistons, grank regrind and shells, new water and oil pump and the radiator reconditioned.
Interior works included fitting of brand new tailor made carpets and headlining, the original seats were sympathetically cleaned and treated with leather food retaining the gorgeous patina. The wood door cappings and dashboard were stripped and re varnished.
The car was finally painted (After much delibaration) in stunning Burgundy over cream using 'Cellulose' paint as it would have left the factory in 1953 and used by Rolls Royce and Bentley cars of the same era, and painstakingly flatted and polised over a number of weeks to a gorgeous shine with a superb depth of colour rarely seen with modern paints!
Since completion of which virtually every part of the process was lovingly tended to by my father, the car has won awards at many shows coming first in the Riley register rally as 'The best RM car' in 2019.
I have an amazingly detailed hand written log, updated daily by my father of literally every job undertaken along with photographic records and correspondence with various Riley parts suppliers and club members. He was a very meticulous man as can be seen by the attention to detail.
Apart from being driven to various rallys it has had very little use since completion. It drives as near to as I can imagine, just as a brand new one would have driven in 1953.
I have listed as much information as possible in an advertisment, however the only way to really appreciate the car is to come and view for yourself. The car is available to view, in the very garage it was lovingly restored in!
