Norton Camshaft Junior, a name that has delivered well in terms of design and performance. At that time the flagship models were the CS1 and CJ in the first OHC engine design. The CS was sold several times but is still rarely seen today. The production numbers of the CJ were significantly lower than the CS, making it an attractive collector's item today. Most of the CJs produced were delivered in the street version. Only a few were manufactured in “racing trim” like this machine offered here.
Here is the information from the Norton factory records: The engine number and frame number match the records. It featured an Amal carburetor, 26x3 tires and Druid closed suspension forks. The LS gearbox number was 108475. It had a 500cc petrol tank, narrow fenders, twist grip and an oil tank with filler neck on the left. The machine was delivered with high-compression replacement pistons. The Norton was delivered to Piet van Wijngaarden, Netherlands on May 14, 1929, but the records also state that the motorcycle was for Mr. Davids and is “specifically from W. Moore.”
The CJ was ordered by Piet van Wijngaarden in racing trim; whether it was for his client, Mr Davids, or for Piet van Wijngaarden is not known. Piet van Wijngaarden was a Norton racing driver from Netherlands.
The machine in “racing trim” was restored about 5 years ago. Some records, technical data and old pictures are available. The machine is ready to drive.
