1933 Singer Nine Sports
This Singer Nine Sports is from the second year of production, the year in which one achieved a creditable placing and finish at LeMans. Compared to more common side valve cars available at the time this was an advanced motor, overhead cam engine, hydraulic brakes all round, 4 speed gearbox with remote change and 12v electrics – all as standard.
My Singer for sale here has a lovely feeling of history having never been fully stripped down and restored, rather it has benefitted from good maintenance and periodic refurbishment. In the last 2 years the following work has been done to keep it spritely and reliable:
• Engine re-build including re-bore and new pistons.
• Re-built brakes all round and new master cylinder.
• New clutch
• Re-built steering box
• Re-built starter motor
• Professional radiator flush
• New half shafts
• New fuel pump, coil and discrete electronic ignition.
• Wheels refurbished and 5 new tyres
The interior and hood bag are absolutely original, the leather seats are very worn but the rest of the interior is in good condition. In my view it would be a shame to restore the seats but if show winning is your goal then sure it could be done. Likewise the paint work and chrome are very presentable as seen in the photo’s but are far from perfect, for me it’s the character of the car but could be improved upon whilst still enjoying her.
The car has full soft top and side screens, the side screens I think are original, the soft top is a replacement and is water tight.
Its great fun to drive and has one of the best exhaust notes of any 4 cylinder car I have owned, it positively fizzes along.
Good history file, V5 in my name, good spares availability from the owners club, Tax free, MOT free and under £100 to insure.
A regretful sale but space needed.
