1923 Ford T Bucket Greasers are a youth subculture that was popularized in the 1950s to 1960s by predominantly working class and lower class teenagers and young adults in the United States. The subculture remained prominent into the mid-1960s and was particularly embraced by certain ethnic groups in urban areas, particularly Italian-Americans and Hispanic-Americans. Rock and roll music, rockabilly and doo-wop were major parts of the culture. The word greaser originated in the 19th century in the United States as a derogatory label for poor laborers. The term was later used to refer to mechanics. It was not used in writing to refer to the American subculture of the mid-20th century until the mid-1960s because of their characteristic greased-back hair. Grab on to your leather jacket, and comb in a DA on the back of your head, we are goin for a wild ride in this T bucket. Aptly named because of the bucket (passenger compartment) was really the only thing used from the original Ford Model T. This one utilizes the rear pickup deck as well and presents as an earlier build. Exterior What else but lime green would adorn the fiberglass on this unit? A climb in for the passengers to have access to the bucket is needed and Ford badged step plates mounted to the side pipes aid in this task. Old style green painted hanging lamps flank the windshield, and one brings up the rear as well, acting like a taillight as it dangles from the rear Ford badged tailgate. A green tube structure for the windshield, frame and dual green large bullet style lamps flank a big brass radiator up front. All chrome shows nicely overall. 14-inch chrome Cragar wheels are on front and on back a set of 15-inch Rocket wheels, all wrapped by wide radials. White fluffy fur borders the bucket at all edges on top, and for the bed some oak planks nicely finished with stake rails surrounding the sides of the small bed. Interior A white vinyl tuck and roll bench seat with white vinyl smooth bolsters stretches from door to drivers side panel. Black carpeting covers the floor, and a lime green metal dash with simple numerous black round gauges relay essential information to the driver, run across the dash of this car. Side panels also sport white vinyl and have padded white vinyl uppers. A vintage wood rimmed Ford steering wheel is attached to a long tubular steering column. A shift lever rests in the middle of the bench just in front of it. Drivetrain A nice 289ci V8 with chromed headers and side pipes will wake up the neighbors when you arrive home. A 3-speed automatic C4 transmission is attached to the back of this 8 banger, and an Edelbrock intake and Edelbrock 4-barrel carb rest atop. All this under a cast aluminum scoop. Its all hanging out there for the word to behold. Undercarriage No rust here just plenty of chrome steel tube. Chromed suspension parts up front are showing nicely. Otherwise black painted steel provides the structure for the bucket, and shows no rust whatsoever. Transverse leaf springs for the front suspension with drum brakes, and for the back 4 link with coil springs and more drums for the brakes. Drive-Ability A bit of a handful due to the steering column moving just a bit too much for comfort, and I found it much harder to turn left than right, as when you go hard left the linkage hits the wheel. It has nice power, good brakes, and save for the steering issues all is working nicely in unison. And talk about noise! Overall an earlier build, and a decent driver as our test drive proved. A looker for the Kookie Kookson crowd. Im rolling up my white T shirt sleeves with a pack of Marlboro Reds, my cuffed jean pant legs, and we are going to raise some hell...errr rather smoke from the tires.
