Remarkably free of any history of any accidents or rust, which as any enthusiast will confirm is both highly rare and unlikely to be found in the history of any other such model, with this example still boasting excellent original panel fit and components!
This Giulietta Spider Veloce continues that legacy, offering beautiful Italian design with open-air driving pleasure. Records indicate this Spider Veloce was ordered with a Bianco exterior in Veloce trim and completed on 3 June 1960. Delivered to the United States the following April and sold new via the Hoffman Motor Car Company, it is believed to have remained in the hands of just a few individuals in New England, benefiting from a restoration in the early 1980s.
The Alfa Romeo would be stored for the next three decades; it was eventually unearthed in 2014, when it was sold to a new owner. In 2018, a second restoration effort commenced by the award-winning Milestone Motorcars of Boynton Beach, Florida. Invoices and photos on file record the over 1, 000 hours of labor invested in the restoration, bringing the vehicle to the spectacular condition now seen today. Furthermore, this Giulietta Spider Veloce retains its numbers-matching engine, as noted on the Alfa Romeo Museo Storico document on file.
Purchased by Milestone Motors in 2014 snd held in their inventory for restoring until late 2017 when the restortion was started. Only original new old stock or correctly manufactured parts were used in the restoration. Since the car was already in very fine all original condition, no major issues were anticipated and none were found.
The body was completely disassembled and stripped to bare metal and refinished with the bare metal media blasted to remove all residue paint. It was decided to strip the frame and underside of the car of its factory filler and refinish it in the body color as orignally manufactured. The engine was stripped of all mechanical components and media blasted also to bare metal before being refinished in the Grigio color. The interior was entrusted to 'Central Auto Trim' of West Palm Beach and the seats, door panels and rear compartments completely redone in an original shade of Red vinyl sourced from Italy from one of the original Alfa Romeo suppliers. Soft top and carpets were also redone with original type material only used for the carpets and bound in vinyl as original. All of the window mechanisms were rebuilt and all the window tracks replaced. All body gaskets, seals and rubber components were also sourced from Italy and replaced.
All the major mechanical components were disassembled for rebuilding. All ancillary components of the engine would be rebuilt or replaced including new engine gasket set, timing chains, rod and main bearings, thrust washers, wrist pin bushings, piston rings, new pistons, clutch disc, spark plugs, ignition wire set, points, condensor, oil and filter, distributor components, engine mounts, new exhaust headers, new stainless steel exhaust system, pressure test block and heads, balance engine components. The fuel system with new gas tank, new electric fuel pump, and the two original Weber carburetors rebuilt by a Weber specialist. New bearings and resealing of the original transmission. All new bearings and seals for the differential. The suspension and brakes were completely rebuilt. All new bushings, tie rod ends, rebuilt steering box, new higher rated springs and Koni shocks, new brake linings, master and slave cylinders and flexible brake lines.
The car was originally White and the car was repainted in the period correct color of 'Grigio' (Metallic Gray) which would be complimented with an all new Dark Red leather with Black piping interior in original Italian materials. A new top was fitted together with a rebuilt and refinished top frame. All the brightwork, bumpers, and all ancillary parts were re-chromed. All the glass was original and in good condition so left alone with the windshield polished. All the road wheels were trued, powder coated balanced and had vintage 'Michelin' tires of the original profile and type fitted. The cooling system including the radiator and heater core were completely rebuilt and recored. Period correct hoses were also fitted. The wiring harness was examined and determined to still be in excellent condition, only to be repaired where necessary. Any needed rewiring was completed. All instruments were checked and all electrical components were either replaced or rebuilt as required.
Originality was paramount in the restoration with Milestone using only new old stock or modern equivalent parts used in the restoration with no expense spared.
Now presented with a very handsome Gray exterior over striking Red with Black piping, you will look long and hard to find a finer example anywhere of this wonderfully restored 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce Spider which makes for a thoroughly stylish and enjoyable summer cruiser. Such a fine example should not be passed by for any serious Alfa or indeed any serious European or Italian sports car collector.
