1956 AUSTIN HEALEY 100M
SN4167 VIN N0:BN2L-231113 ENG NO:1B/ 231113M
AUD $210, 000 - £109, 300
(To be sold UN-Registered & with Vic RWC)
GENUINE 2 OWNER 100M
Introduced in August 1955, and Built for 12 Months, Only 3924 BN2's were Built, Representing Just 26. 8% of Austin Healey 100 Production. The BN2 was Upgraded with Austin's New 4 Speed Gearbox, More Efficient Front Drum Brakes and a Stronger Rear Axle with a Hypoid Differential replacing the earlier Spiral Bevel unit. Some 640 BN2’s were Factory Modified and designated as 100M models when fitted with Higher Compression Pistons (8. 1:1), Hi-Lift Camshaft, modified Lucas Distributor, 1¾ " SU Carburettors on Special Manifolds with Cold Air Box, a Louvred Bonnet with Strap and a Stiffer Anti-Roll bar. The engine modifications were previously available as ‘The Le Mans Modification Kit’ and could be fitted to either BN1 or BN2 models by dealers. These dealer modified Healeys are not classified as genuine 100M’s but as Healeys with Le Mans Kit fitted.
This 100M was built 29th February 1956 for export to the USA. The accompanying Heritage Certificate confirms the Original Colours as Healey Blue/ White with Blue Trim and correct Chassis and Engine Numbers. A copy of the original Sales Contract confirms the Healey was sold by ‘Riviera Imported Cars’ in Hermosa Beach California to Mr. Milton C Blake Jr. of Redondo Beach California on 30th June 1956. The Healey stayed in the custody of Milton Blake for almost 33 years before being purchased on 13th May 1989 by the Second Owner and Imported into Australia.
Following its arrival in Australia the 100M underwent a Comprehensive Restoration over many years, during which time it was also converted to RHD. A new ‘Kilmartin Chassis’ was used with any viable original chassis items transferred to it. A Photo Album with the Healey shows various aspects of the restoration from beginning to completion. Invoices confirm that the Engine was rebuilt by ‘Crankshaft Rebuilders’ in November 2005. There have been a number of upgrades which will improve performance, reliability and ease of servicing, such as an Alloy Sump, B&M Harmonic Balancer, Alternator, Hi-Torque Starter Motor, Spin-On Oil Filter Conversion, Alloy Rocker Cover, Narrow Fan Belt Conversion with Alloy Water Pump Pulley with Texas Kooler 5 Blade Fan and Ceramic Coated Extractors. The 100M performs noticeably better than a standard BN1 or BN2, the Le Mans Kit engine modifications taking the power from 90BHP @4200RPM to 110 BHP @ 4500RPM, coupled to the 4 Speed Gearbox and Overdrive there is always the ideal gear for every occasion.
This Austin Healey 100M presents beautifully in its Correct Original Colours both inside and out and is a wonderful testament to its owner’s passion and dedication to the marque. The Healey is an instant eye catcher with its Gerry Coker styled body still turning heads and still providing genuine 100 MPH Performance. This 100M presents a great opportunity for the astute, enthusiast buyer who appreciates what a special Austin Healey model this is.
