1964 Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8 Works Rally Car!! In the process of restoration all finished in sheet metal done in a very professional way, the car has all the parts, a very interesting project. The engine and gearbox we can deliver ready to put in the car and give the key with +/- 170 hp In 1964 the Austin-Healey factory in Abingdon only built three factory rally cars, they normally built a few each year and the cars competed in many of the world's biggest racing and rally events - often beating well above their Weight. The standard Austin-Healey 3000 is powered by a 2,912cc inline 6 with overhead valves, 2 to 3 carburettors depending on variant, a 4-speed gearbox (with or without overdrive), a curb weight of 2,550 lbs (1,157 kgs), and a top speed somewhere in the 115 mph range. Factory-built race cars did away with SU carburettors for a set of triple Weber 45 DCOE units, which were paired with a race side-exit exhaust that helped improve ground clearance - Big Healeys are famous for their low exhausts and by the scraping sounds they make when ground clearance runs out. The Healey factory installed ventilated front fenders to improve airflow over the front disc brakes, and a hard top was fitted as standard to improve aerodynamics at high speeds. The factory chrome bumpers were removed front and rear, with a set of 5 rally headlamps bolted around the radiator intake. One of three built in 1964, it is most famous for its popular victory in the 1964 Spa-Sofia-Liège rally - a brutal 94-hour endurance race. The Healey raced against a varied field including a Saab 96, Citroën DS 19, Ford Cortina GT, Mercedes-Benz 230 SL and a Porsche 356 B Super 90.
