Seller's comments about 1964' Austin-Healey 3000
GHU 528B is a wonderfully presented, first class driving Austin Healey 3000 MKIII finished in its original colours of Healey Blue over Ivory White. Our ‘Big Healey’ was dispatched to Madrid, Spain on the 17th of February 1964, equipped with overdrive, heater, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen, locking petrol cap and wire wheels. In 2004, the Healey returned to England where it joined its first UK owner and was subject to a comprehensive body restoration and RHD conversion documented by photographs throughout. Having recently been subject to a major program of mechanical work at a marque specialist, the Healey gives an outstanding first impression on startup and test drive, it is truly magnificent on the road and offers very impressive performance. Its first UK keeper enjoyed a long-term ownership until 2016 when the MKIII joined a classic car enthusiast local to us in North Yorkshire. From this point, the car was looked after by DM Classic Cars every year until August of 2025 when GHU 528B was taken to marque specialists, Murray Scott Nelson of Scarborough for a major program of mechanical work. This included removing the engine and gearbox, replacing the core plugs, carrying out a full cooling flush with new hoses and thermostat. Further work included replacing any oil seals on the engine and gearbox as required, setting the valve timing, adjusting the valve clearances, fitted a new sump pa , before refitting the engine along with a new clutch plate. The gearbox bushes were replaced while the engine was out and when refitting the carburetors and exhaust manifolds, new studs and brass nuts were fitted as required. For more convenient maintenance going forward, a spin on oil filter conversion kit was fitted, then the engine oil was refilled. The front suspension was subject to a full refresh, with new hubs, wheel bearings, kingpins, shock absorbers and bushes were required. The braking system was refreshed also, with a new brake servo, brake master cylinder, new brake discs and pads. The rear suspension was inspected, and fitted were new leaf springs, shock absorbers, shock links, and U-bolts. The differential oil was drained, fitted with a new pinion seal before being refilled. Following this extensive work, the Healey specialists took the car for a number of road tests, ensuring the carbs were optimally set up and ready for reliable long-distance touring. As stated, the Healey is first class on the road with fabulous performance from the strong, rebuilt six cylinder engine. Oil pressure, is excellent, the car feels perfectly set up, it pulls through the gears beautifully and the overdrive comes in and out smoothly. Handling and braking are impressive, the car has a wonderful exhaust note and this is a car ready for long distance touring with no hesitation. With a fabulous, straight bodyshell, lovely paint finish, a beautifully aged upholstery and lovely chrome work, this is a fantastic car ready to enjoy. With just two owners in the past twenty two years and less than 10, 000 miles since rebuild, there’s no doubt this is a highly sought after, very honest example that has been a pleasure to own.
