JF Classic Cars present a stunning fully restored 1965 ‘Mk-1 Austin Mini Cooper S’ in immaculate condition, With Martin Shaw(Doyle) from the Tv Hit series ‘The Professionals’ Being the very first owner!
DESCRIPTION
With being the brainchild of John Copper who persuaded British Motor Corporation(BMC) to trial run 1000 examples ensuring to meet the Homologation rules required to race in Group 2 rallying and what more needs saying, Having victories in the Monte Carlo rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967 a true legend was born.
EXTERNAL
This is a beautiful vehicle with having undertaken a full complete nut and bolt restoration. Having been finished to a very high standard underneath with sub frames being restored and powder coated which along with all running gear being replaced throughout ensuring nothing was left wanting for anything, Expense was not an issue including ‘NOS’ Hydralastic displacers fitted along with all consumables where required. Finished in Austin ‘Surf Blue’ body paint along with traditional ‘Old English’ white paintwork to the roof. All panels sitting immaculate with a deep glossy shine throughout. Chrome work front to rear simply stunning with the classic chrome bumpers fitted front and rear with over riders along with corner bars gleaming, Front slatted chrome grill gleaming, Single chrome twist door handles sit on both drivers and passengers side doors working beautifully. Front drivers and passengers doors also have the rally theme slide open guise windows which operate without fault along with Pull/ Snap hinged rear windows which operate impeccably. Chrome work and rubbers around all window areas presents fresh and fade free. With being a true ‘Cooper S’ this has the twin twist chrome petrol filler caps any genuine example should have. Upon opening the drop down boot you instantly see the twin tanks along with a unique colour coded fabric shelf with leather bound edging simply stunning. All lights front and rear present in the very best of condition crack and fade free and of course genuine ensuring originality has been maintained throughout. Badging sitting correct beaming with brashness and boldness.
INTERNAL
Originality very often can be used to easily however in this instance upon opening drivers or passenger side doors you instantly see the original blue leather bolster seating with blue piping and grey/ gold leaf centre panelling sitting in untouched original condition simply a thing of beauty, Both front and rear seats in original untouched condition you simply do not come across this often this needs simply viewing to appreciate the detail. With matching door cards front and rear finished in blue with matching grey/ gold leaf livery simply amazing. Blue colour coded leather door ajar strap attached to the ‘A’ pillar on both front doors respectively. Grey ‘Britax’ fixed front seatbelts finish of the basic but functional safety aspects. Original white ripple honey combe affect headlining sits beautiful with original interior light centre bound. With drivers and passengers sun visors still retaining the original grey clips it left the factory with. Basic can only be used to sum up the interior but adequate and clutter free three dial centre dash displaying water temperature to the left, Speedometer sitting larger to the centre and oil pressure to the right all courser warning lights extinguish accordingly.
With various toggle switches and ignition switch sitting directly underneath along with a factory optional ‘Fresh Air Heater’ fitted. Three spoke chrome over wooden steering wheel which were original fit to the ‘Cooper S’ in wonderful condition highlighting little use. A very sixties theme interior minimalistic but practical.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
A bill Richards engine burbles away under the bonnet housing twin ‘SU’ carburettors, With an Evo-1 Camshaft fitted inside a ‘Fast Road Engine’ being bored to +40 giving you a 1310cc engine over the standard 1275cc, With a ported and polished head along with standard crank and mains, Big ends are +10 ensuring you have the best of power and torque whilst not over doing it. Matched to a 4-speed manual gearbox which has been fully rebuilt throughout. The vehicle drives beautiful handling town and country roads with ease, Having 105bhp on tap.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Fitted with very rare 4-stud ‘Dinky Rose Petal’ alloy wheels imported from Japan in immaculate condition along with the dedicated special wheel nuts associated sitting on as new Dunlop 165/ 70R10 Tyres on each corner.
Factory upgraded larger front disc brakes were fitted along with drums to the rear, To increase stopping power a factory fit larger brake booster was fitted to ensure your brought to a steady and refined stop.
HISTORY FILE
Take nothing away this is one very special rare example. With impeccable credentials and being a three former owner only vehicle. This vehicle was built on 23rd February 1965 and delivered on the 3rd March 1965 to supplying dealer ‘Carey & Lambert ltd’ Southampton who subsequently supplied it to its first owner no other than Martin Shaw ‘aka Doyle’ from the Tv Hit Show ‘The professionals’ for his own personal use. Mr Shaw owned the vehicle for over 20years. To substantiate the credentials this example comes with its ‘Heritage’ Certificate ensuring it’s what it is. A beautiful example with heritage and famous ownership that will sit proud in any private owners collection or a show winner if so desired simply stunning example which awaits it’s new owner.
