Seller's comments about 1966' Chevrolet Chevelle SS427
This 66 Chevelle SS396 was built at Willow Run, MI. and came east sometime in her life, as the current owner is at least the second owner here in New England.
She rolled off the line as a true 396 SS car (13817) and was painted in Danube Blue, with a black interior.
It is believed that she was raced due to the line lock, lack of the original engine and the notch marks on the front bumper, presumably from a tow bar.
The previous owner installed the 427, kept the original M20 4 speed gear box, had her painted and put the larger wheels/tires on her.
The current owner bought her with the idea of really just driving and enjoying her, but after the drive home, he heard some minor noises under the hood that piqued his curiosity. It's a solid lifter car, so at first he figured that was it, but after digging a bit deeper, he found broken rocker arms and bent push rods.
This was no longer going to be a fun driver, it now became a fun project.
The paint is/was very good (now Marina Blue) so that stayed and the quality of the interior was also show worthy, so that stayed... BUT the following is a list of everything the current owner has done in his 5 years of ownership:
427 (correct casting number of 3916321) totally stripped down and rebuilt. New rods, heads decked, all new solid lifters, rockers, springs, push rods, all new bearings, new cam (Comp Cams), new rings, new valves and seals, new Holley 750 4bbl, new Hooker headers, new Holley mechanical fuel pump (matched to the carb), all new hydraulic lines, new steering pump and box, new EPS aluminum radiator, 2 1600 CFM electric fans, all new pulleys and belts, new poly motor mounts. New Hayes clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing, new Hurst shifter with "pro" linkage.
New windshield, wipers, wiper motor and washer pump, new glass seals, front and rear, new weatherstripping throughout. New Springs, shocks, brakes, boxed lower control arms, QR1 adjustable upper control arms, new tires. New 3" stainless exhaust, Flowmaster mufflers. New Master cylinder, and all brake lines. New carpeting, sound deadener/insulation, new package tray, new aux gauges.
There are less than 1000 miles on this car since all this work has been done.
The tires are Cooper Cobras, in 275/60R/15 in back and 225/70's up front. Date codes of 2019.
This is a show car that can be driven very easily. There very minor flaws on the chrome primarily the front. There is a small scratch on the right headlight bezel, some minor marks on the lower aluminum rocker guards. From an appearance point of view, I'd say a high #2 car. On the under side, everything is either freshly painted or thinly undercoated in the original style.
The interior is like new, you can eat off any surface under the hood but where she really shines is that 450-475 HP 427. She runs and drives beautifully. Under hard acceleration, with wheels spinning, the car doesn't fight and try to get away. She rolls straight and strong.
Simply put, you will be hard pressed to find a better car. Might you find one that is flashier or more "mod" than resto? Sure, something Dave Kindig would build, but an awesome looking, awesome driving street fighter? Nah, this one hits all the marks.
To take her home, will take $72,000, that is negotiable though.
Please don't hesitate to ask any questions, contact me for many more photos and videos, to make an offer or schedule a time to meet her in person.
Thank you for the interest!
