ORAL HISTORY:
Though we do not have documentation going back to 1955 (the state of Georgia did not even title new cars back then) the current owner purchased this car from an elderly gentleman who related that he bought this Delray brand-new, and was thus the original owner for an incredible 60+ years. Most importantly, the car was never really “restored”…rather it was very well maintained…including a professionally applied quality re-paint about 20 years ago, as well as new carpet and interior pieces as needed when they became worn. The current owner is a well-regarded Chevrolet expert/enthusiast and has made mechanical improvements to make the car safer, more reliable, and better performing. In sum, this car never passed into the oblivion of the “old used car” world, where cars are less and less appreciated and cared-for as the list of owners grows and grows. Rather, the two owners of record both cared for and loved this car for the classic that we all now appreciate as an icon of America in the 1950s. The indicated 41,418 mileage is believed to be original, but cannot be guaranteed due to the design limitations of the odometer.

GENERAL HISTORY:
The Chevrolet Delray model debuted in 1954 as an optional trim level on Chevy’s mid-range 210 series of cars.
The 265 cid small-block V8 (which appears in this car, with 3-Speed Manual) was introduced in the 1955 model year and proved to be a solid success. This Delray Club Coupe is highly desirable and a bit rare as it was only 6.6% ofChevrolet’s total 1955 production.
OPERATIONAL REPORT:
Most 1955 cars kind of rumble and rattle down the road…even if they have been made to look quite good. But this cars feels very solid and “tight”…making the odometer reading of 41,418 believable (though not documented or guaranteed). The car is a joy to drive and to be seen in. It’s not for introverts – don’t be surprised to find a small crowd around the Delray when you return to it from shopping. All exterior lights, horn, wipers, gauges andthe radio (modern type) were tested during the photoshoot and worked well.

IMPERFECTIONS: Mostfolks who see this car coming or going – or even walking up to it – will say that it appears to be “as new/nearly new”. But please keep in mind that this car was never stripped down to its last nut and bolt, with each part fussed over and re-assembled into something though “perfect” to some people’s eyes, bears little resemblance to what GM actually shipped out the door. In truth, no classic car is truly perfect in everyone’s eyes…and this car is no exception. Therefore – because we want you to know exactly what you are getting – we actually look for flaws to pointout. Therefore, please be sure to examine the very last set of images because they show the types of imperfections (minor in our opinion) that you should expect
…we have aimed the camera everywhere that a discerning buyer would look…so you can fully appreciate how fine this Delray really is. The first set of images is intended to give a quick overall presentation of the car from a variety of vantage points. Then, there are specific sets of images (for serious buyers) that show greater detail of all areas of the car – even the undercarriage. In all, there are over 150 pictures.
INVESTMENT POTENTIAL …as we age, many of us get nostalgic about the “cars of our youth”. There is alwaysthat favorite car that “got away”, or was out of reach decades ago…but that now cruises in the country roads of your mind. Then there are those cars that are not only our personal favorites, but that are also the favorite of millions of classic car admirers…these are the true Blue-Chip classics…and this 1955 Delray is one of them. To own this famed Chevy is to have – not just a classic – but a true American motoring icon. Its place is history has long been established, and it is one of the very best candidates for increased value appreciation in the years ahead.
