Seller's comments about 1970' Ford Cortina

UK supplied RHD 1970 Ford Cortina MKII 1600E Manual finished in Amber gold metallic with black seats and interior. Showing a recorded and credible 46, 000 miles with just 4 previous keepers. In 2015 the Cortina went through a three-year restoration, carried out with considerable care and attention to originality.
Of particular note, the car was used and tested by Jeremy Clarkson during filming for The Grand Tour, which aired in April 2019. Clarkson is said to have praised both the appearance and performance of the car. It also later appeared on BBC’s The One Show and features within The Grand Tour’s associated PS4 game. The inner wing carries a signature from Mike Peters, lead singer of 1980s band The Alarm.
The car retains its ‘numbers matching’ 1600GT engine, which was fully stripped during restoration. Standard bearing sizes and cylinder bores were noted, supporting the stated mileage. The engine was rebuilt with new plus-size bearings, new pistons, a replacement camshaft and followers, and a new Borg & Beck three-piece clutch, together with new clutch master and slave cylinders.
Further work included a new timing chain and tensioner, new-old-stock water pump, replacement hoses and waterless coolant. The original FoMoCo radiator has been retained, as has the factory-fitted dynamo (stripped and checked). A new inertia starter motor was installed. The Weber twin-choke carburettor was ultrasonically cleaned, re-jetted and set up on a dynamometer. The car benefits from a unique stainless-steel exhaust system with a specially engineered one-off manifold. The original ignition system is retained apart from upgraded competition-quality Magnecor plug leads.
The Cortina’s original seats remain in place and were found to be in remarkably good condition, requiring only detailed cleaning. New carpets and quality underlay were installed, along with replacement door cards. The door cappings and dashboard fascia were re-laminated in ash. All instruments were stripped, cleaned and checked, and a new fuel-tank sender unit fitted. A period Sharp radio-cassette was sourced and installed to maintain period correctness.
