Seller's comments about 1980' Ford Escort

Advertising for a customer this 1980 Ford Escort RS2000. This is an Australian built car which has never had any welding underneath and is very very original structurally. Our customer bought it around 8 or 9 years ago when he lived in Australia and brought it back with him in 2023. The car shows 137000 kms which is around 85000 miles. It still has its original engine and is a matching numbers car. It starts runs and drives really well and feels nice and tight. It doesnt feel like some which have been in a million bits then put back together. We have two sets of keys and the V5 here
I know there will be a lot of people wanting to tell me whats wrong with this car in terms of spec but please note the Australian cars are a bit diffferent to UK spec. We have done a bit homework and the main differences are as follows: no tramp bars on rear axle or brackets, steel sump and steel mounts, rolltop front seats rather than fishnet, no clock and pod, different gearbox with shorter tailshaft so gearstick fits in normal position. Different spec mirrors were fitted from new. Inside it has a Park Brake light on the drivers side of the dash. There are a few other differences but these are the main ones. It is a genuine RS2000 as built by Ford Australia.
Body - Very original unrestored shell, which is a rarity. Original inner wings strut tops, arches, sills, pillars and so on. Never been welded underneath and is really solid. Its been waxoyled fairly recently and was also cavity waxed from new. Chassis number still prsent on strut top. It looks like its had a passenger side wing at some point in its life and it did have a repaint a number of years ago. At that point the original Australian spec stripe, similar to a broadstripe was removed and UK style decals fitted. Bonnet sits a little high on passenger side. Paint work is nice and tidy with no major marks. Car looks really well. Its not a concours car but a very original tidy , useable example.
Mechanics - Original engine and gearbox. Engine had a freshen up about 10 years ago. Its just had a new Weber Carb fitted. Its got a stainless Genie LCB manifold, Recently its had the tappets done, new spray bar, new rocker cover gasket and an oil service. Rear wheel cylinders were recently replaced, recent points and plugs, rear lowering blocks fitted, 175lb springs fitted, The car starts runs and drives very very well and ticks over as it should from cold. Its feels nice and tight on the test drive with no noises or rattles.
Interior - Rooltop seats which have recently been retrimmed with Aldridge covers. Good original doorcards, goo carpet and black headlining. Very tidy inside.
Wheels - The Australian spec wheels were replaced with a set of & inch JBW RS replica wheels and new 185 60 13 tyres.
This is a cracking car which drives superb and structurally is way more original than loads that we see. Yes the spec is a bit different to a UK one, if that bothers you then its maybe not the one. If you want a car without a questionable history and is almost as it left the factory then it could be for you. As they say they are only original once.
You are welcome to come and see the car. we will happily put it up on the ramp for you. Delivery can be arranged if required. Please ask for a quote
