Classic Car Design offers you this powerful Ford Mustang V8 289 coupe in a racing style. Beyond the model, it is the work done that is impressive! Its owner, a member of Mustang Club de France, has been driving a Mustang for many years. He has spent countless hours to achieve his desire. A 5cm thick file of invoices and photos traces the restoration and preparation of the car. More than 73, 000€ (seventy-three thousand) were invested over a period of almost 6 years. Since then, the car has only been driven a little over 2600 km. It benefits from an LP VRH from the FIA / FFSA (Pass for historic regularity vehicle) in the "tourism" category. It is impossible to give you an exhaustive list of everything that has been done but here is a summary: The base car is a California C-code model 66 that was first registered in 1965. It has been completely dismantled to work on all the sheet metal and fit the homologated roll bar. It is now the beautiful "Sylver blue" that covers the whole body. The yellow stripe is a reference to the famous AC Cobra 289 FIA. The front bumper has disappeared in favour of a Shelby-type skirt topped by the Oscar Cibié. From a mechanical point of view, everything has been redone or fitted as new. The 302 ci Ford Racing engine is equipped with ICON forged pistons and Eagle H beam rods. It is fed by a Holley 670 cfm carburetor on an Edelbrock performer pipe. It also benefits from a complete MSD ignition, an oil cooler with a Milodon large capacity oil pan. In the continuity of the 4 in 1 manifolds, the stainless steel exhaust system with side outlets has been custom made. This engine is coupled to a 4 Top-loader gearbox which transmits the power to the self-locking axle. There is no power steering or braking. The front brakes are still drum brakes at the rear, with 4-piston calipers and 280mm Wilwood discs. The brakes are controlled by a Wilwood pedal box. The damping is done by 4 Koni. As on the Shelby, the upper wishbone mounts have been moved and the axle is equipped with tie rods. The wheels are American Racing 6x15s mounted in semi-slick. In the cabin, the atmosphere is also sporty even if the carpets and door panels are present. The dashboard is notable for its complete Autometer instrumentation. Everything is there to take part in regularity rallies and track sessions: Lecarra steering wheel, bucket seats, harness, brake distributor control, Tripmaster, fire extinguishers, one of which has dual interior/ exterior controls and nozzles in the cabin and engine compartment, cut-off switch, etc. The battery has been placed in the boot. There is also a large capacity tank with vertical filling. Having had the chance to drive this beast on the track and having been co-driver on a historic rally, I can tell you that this Pony car is a bomb worthy of the Mustang myth!
