I'm selling my 1948 Ford Prefect E93A, I bought this last year with the best of intentions but lack of suitable space & time to get it sorted mean that it should go to a new home where this resto project will be completed. This model of Prefect was built from 1938 to 1949 (with a gap for WW2) and as such, is quite a rare car now. It has been stored away since 1972, and in recent times work has begun on re-awakening it. A previous owner replaced various parts under the bonnet (eg ignition parts, head studs and nuts, control box, hoses etc). I had it running a few times las year and the engine sounds quiet with no ominous noises or smoke, it's been up and down the drive to test the gears and clutch, both seem fine despite the car's decades being out of use. I siphoned out the old fuel and replaced it with a couple of gallons of fresh (although it still smells a bit old at the carb end so the tank probably wants draining and re-filling again). The starting handle is clipped to the bulkhead. It'll need a battery, plus an exhaust which is blowing at the front joint. There's no play in the front wheelbearings or the kingpins (both now re-greased), the steering feels good. As it was laid up in the early 1970s it missed being put onto DVLA's systems when it was created, so it'll want re-registering. The FSOC has a scheme for doing this (I've done it before), importantly the original chassis plate is present on the car, and the number matches that stamped into the chassis itself. No original paperwork survives. The bodywork is very original, as is the paint and I think it looks great, a definite candidate for oily-ragging. All four doors open and close very nicely, no slamming required, no play in the hinge pins. The grille (chrome on brass) is nice and straight (early cars had painted grilles). The chassis is sound, the only welding I can see is a bit behind both front wheels (out of sight behind the front wings), and also in front of one rear wing where it bolts to the tail of the running board. None of it is structural, the wing mountings are all strong, but these bits of welding want doing sometime. Otherwise it's very solid for its age, the 50 years it's been dry stored have definitely helped. The door pillars are all good, same for the sill steps and rear arches that are visible when you open the back doors etc etc. Gutters are good too (please see photos). The interior has survived quite well too overall, the carpets have been removed as they were tatty. The headlining is fitted but a bit grubby and torn in a few places. The seats are usable, same for the door trims (not perfect, but ok), and the dash is all there (complete with an old garage's transfer on it), as are the bakelite trims around the windows. Parts availability for these Fords is good with several specialists and clubs around to help keep them on the road, the engine is the same 1172cc unit used in the E493A Prefect, and the 103E Pops. Payment cash on collection please or bank t/ f prior to collection day (to allow it to clear).
