Seller's comments about 1972' Ginetta G15

I Have recently managed to negotiate a deal with a friend of mine on a car I've been after for nearly a year, as such I've decided to sell my recently purchased Ginetta G15.

I first became interested in the marque after seeing one at a local classic car show, when I found out that they were made in Witham, Essex, not far from where I live I decided that I would like to own one one day.

The Ginetta G15, also known as the poor men's Lotus Elan, was first shown to the general public in 1967 at the London Motor Show with an 875 Sunbeam Imp Sport engine that delivered 51hp. That seems very little power, but due to the extremely low weight of about 500 kilos, the car was capable of lively performance. This low weight was achieved in a typical English way by combining a polyester body with a tubular chassis. The model was for sale as a fully finished or as a kit car. In 1968 the first examples left the factory, until 1974 a total of 800 copies were built.

This particular car caught my eye a few years ago when it was for sale at the prestigious classic car dealer Hofman in Leek, Belgium. They had it advertised at the time for 17, 900 Euros!

Anyway the car was purchased by the guy I bought it from who imported it to the UK, all of the import paperwork has been done and I have the V5c here in my name. The car is currently taxed (Historic so free) and insured (I paid £90. for fully comp) and is MOT exempt.

I bought the car as a "non runner", on investigation I found that there was no power going to the coil so the fault was traced back to a wire that had become detached behind the ignition switch. One of the spark plugs was also breaking down so a new set of plugs were bought. The car then started!

I've since driven it locally but it's still not 100%, I suspect that the old fuel in the tank will not be helping so that could probably do with changing.

That said the car is in good condition for it's age, the bodywork is presentable and polishes up well and mechanically it's obviously been looked after and has signs of recent work.

I would say it probably could do with a tune up or possibly switching back to twin Stromberg carbs and of course a thorough safety check before being used for competition.

There is very little paperwork to go with the car, just the V5, import documents and a few receipts for engine parts.

You are welcome to come to view the car and carry out any inspection. Test drives only on proof of insurance or I will drive.
Happy to help with overseas buyers as I know these classic British sports cars are appreciated abroad.
