All three were derived from the Jaguar XK. The smallest had a displacement of 2, 483 cm³ and produced 120 bhp, the middle 3, 442 cm³ (3. 4 L, 210 bhp) and the largest 3, 781 cm³ (3. 8 L, 220 bhp). The latter was similar to the 3. 8 L engine used on the E-Type, as it shared components such as the block, crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons. The two engines however had different intake manifolds and a different fuel system.Brakes became discs on all wheels, while the manual four-speed overdrive gearbox was completely new (and Jaguar production continued with wide availability of overdrive until 1964; the first gear was not synchronized). The 3. 8 litre had standard limited-slip differential (optional on the 3. 4 manuals). The Mark II was produced from 1959 to 1967. The saloon Mark II was Jaguar’s most successful model up to that time, with a total production of 83, 701 units. The 3. 8 engine developed 220 hp, giving a top speed of 201 km/ h and a 0–100 km/ h time of 8. 5 seconds. This has always been regarded as the most desirable of the Mark II models, especially when fitted with wire wheels and overdrive. Add these extras, together with leather upholstery and metallic paint ("Opalescent"), and the 3. 8 Mark II cost Lire 3, 996, 300 in 1967. The Mark II enjoyed a successful competition history in international touring car races and rallies. It was driven, among others, by Roy Salvadori and Duncan Hamilton, as well as European drivers such as Bernard Consten and Peter Lindner.A Mark II was memorably used as the getaway carriage in the Great Train Robbery of 1963.See more
