1953 Kaiser Traveler Hatchback, Very Rare Car! Travelers are considered one of the Deluxe models, were available in two and four-door, this is a 4 door Sedan styles. They are often said to be among the first hatchbacks ever built. It is believed that just a handful were built. Based at Willow Run, Michigan, from 1945 to 1953. In 1953 Kaiser Motors made cars, Then Kaiser merged with Willys-Overland to form Willys Motors Incorporated, moving its production operations to the Willys plant to Toledo, Ohio where cars were manufactured under the Kaiser marque until 1955. Their South American operations continued to build passenger cars well up into the 1960s. The company changed its name to Kaiser Jeep Corporation in 1963. Founded as Kaiser-Frazer in mid 1945, over 77 years ago. In 1952 and 1953, Kaiser-Frazer provided Sears, Roebuck and Company with Allstate-branded automobiles that retailer sold through selected Sears Auto Centers. The cars, based on the Henry J models that Kaiser-Frazer dealers were selling, were in the Sears catalog, but the car could not be purchased by mail order. Howard Dutch Darrin and Duncan McRae were responsible for their advanced design. Over previous years the 52 and 53 years featured distinctive new lines; the thick sides. The small windows of earlier cars were replaced by sculptured panels with a characteristic Darrin dip below the rear side windows and an unprecedented amount of glass often referred to as sleek greenhouses . The steeply raked windshield and rear window also shared an unusual center dip, which added strength to the structure and increased glass area to 3,541 square inches; the reverse-angled rear quarter windows added dynamic tension to the design years before BMW made it their trademark. Front appearance became subtler with a thin chrome grille bar and less massive bumpers, and the hunchback trunk was made less severe with squared-off rear fenders. Powered by the Supersonic Six, the long-running L-head straight-six cylinder engine. Very nice Peacock Blue paint. Good body fit lines and gaps. Oversized mirror like chrome rocker panel moldings started at the edge of the front wheel well and ran the length of the car and gracefully merged into the large rear bumper and are continued, although the shape is altered, across the front above the front bumper. The car has very large slightly slanted bullet taillights. The headlights are wrapped by a classy bulbous hump and trimmed with A circular chrome bezel with horizontal points Dead center on the left and right of the headlight. The car features classic elegant touches everywhere you look. Weather looking from the back of the car or the front of the car your eye just flows over the amazing shapes and curves. Flip down tail gate style trunk opening. The interior features an extremely nice vinyl bench seat, light tan carpeting, two tone door panels separated by an elongated S shaped trim creates a great look. Cloth on top, woven on the bottom (like carpet). Vinyl arm rest pads. The gauge cluster is chrome with small squares with Manhattan script in a smooth rectangle. Actual gauges, not wearing lights. Column shift, Leather wrapped steering wheel cover. Red Painted Steel Wheels with K (Kaser) over a majestic Lion which is the companys logo. Thick white wall poly ply tires. The Front Bumper is from a Manhattan and that might explain why the fender scripts as well. The backup lights are likely aftermarket units. The Windshield visor and side window rain shields were dealer installed accessories. This vehicle is either classic, antique, exotic, super rare, or all of the above.
