Seller's comments about 1971' Lancia Fulvia

The Lancia Fulvia first appeared at the Geneva Motor Show of March 1963 as a three-box saloon.Drive was via the front wheels, front suspension was by transverse leaf spring and brakes were Dunlop discs all round. The 1, 091cc V4 engine was designed by Zaccone Mina and featured an unusually narrow 12° V mounted at 45 degrees and featured two chain-driven overhead camshafts, one for exhaust valves, the other for inlets.A year later the elegant Fulvia Coupe was launched and was styled inhouse by Piero Castagnero and engineered on a shortened Fulvia saloon platform by structural engineer Aldo Castagno. The sporty Coupe had an uprated engine, rear anti-roll bar, floor-mounted gearchange and was significantly lighter than the saloon weighing in at only 960kg.In 1966 a high-performance version of the Fulvia Coupe appeared called the 1. 3 HF Coupe. The new model had a more powerful 101bhp engine thanks to larger carburettors, higher compression and reprofiled camshafts. The 1. 6 HF appeared at the 1968 Turin Motor Show. Engine capacity was increased to 1, 584 cc by larger bores and a longer stroke. Larger 42mm Solex carburettors helped to produced 114 bhp.The facelifted Second Series Fulvia 1600 HF was produced between 1970 and 1973 beginning with chassis number 1001 with a believed 3, 690 units manufactured. The Second Series 1600 HF had no bumpers and featured flared wheel arches, a five-speed gearbox and collapsable steering column. The brakes were uprated with larger Girling calipers all round plus a brake servo. The handbrake design was also changed using separate drums and brake-shoes operating on the rear wheels. The V4 engine once again had a capacity of 1, 584 cc and produced 113 bhp.A dating letter on file from the Lancia Motor Club states chassis the details below2 is a Second Series Lancia Fulvia 1600 HF manufactured in November 1970 (consequently a relatively early production example) and was delivered new to Italy.By 1980 the Fulvia was owned by Efisio Atzeni of Cagliari, Sardinia who sold it in 2003 to Antonio Liporace of Courmayer who had the car restored in Italy. The current British owner purchased the Fulvia from Liporace in 2014 and imported it into the UK.In 2015 the Fulvia went to UK Lancia specialists Omicron for assessment. Although it had been previously restored in Italy, a number of issues were discovered and the decision was taken to restore the car again. The resulting restoration incorporated several backdated S1 ‘Corsa’ features. The car already had aluminium bonnet, boot and doors, large oil sump and oil cooler. The front suspension was the greased type without silent blocs and had negative camber. The car also featured a more direct steering box/ rack.Omicron stripped the body to bare metal and dealt with any corrosion. The sills, front and rear floors, boot floor and spring mount box sections were all replaced. New wheel arch panels were fitted with lead loading where required. The body was placed on its side and the wheel arches seam sealed, etch primed and the underside coated with an anti-stonechip coating. The interior metal work was finished in satin black paint.The engine bay was stripped for painting which necessitated the removal of the complete front subframe assembly.The finished body was painted in Azzuro HF Blue, a welcome relief to the usual red. The engine and gearbox assemblies were cleaned and refitted. Original Fusina competition seats were installed along with the rear section of the roll cage.An external electric cut-off switch was also fitted along with a Lifeline fire extinguisher and blue Sabelt seat belts. The work was completed in 2016 and hundreds of digital photographs document the restoration process.Since 2017 the car has been maintained by J. A. Rose Ltd. of Hawkhurst in Kent who in 2017 overhauled the carburettors and replaced the fuel hoses along with fitting a new 123 distributor and a 2-litre oil catch tank to FIA/ MSA specification. The headlamps were replaced with right hand drive items and a new Flamethrower coil fitted.The car was used sparingly throughout 2017 before being placed in dehumidified storage until 2022 when it went to Thornley Kelham for a refresh. The complete front subframe assembly including engine and gearbox was removed, the water pump was stripped and rebuilt, the timing chain and tensioner were replaced, valve clearances reset, new gearbox mounts fitted along with new air and fuel filters, thermostat, fanbelt, Yuassa battery, oil filter and NGK spark plugs. The fuel and brake lines were replaced along with rear anti-roll bar bushes and tyres.In 2023 two new front brake discs were fitted plus new radiator, upper ball joints and front hub bearings. Also in 2023 a replacement gearbox was fitted (the original will come with the car). The car was then placed into storage at Thornley Kelham. This fantastic example of a Second Series Fulvia 1600 HF is now offered for sale. The current owner has spent just under £120, 000 since purchasing the car and consequently must be one of the best in existence. The Fulvia also comes with a history file that contains many invoices and hundreds of digital photographs that document its restoration.
