ORIGINAL RHD UK CAR WITH ONLY 2 OWNERS FROM NEW & 39, 970 MILES FROM NEW!
The Fulvia Sport was a fastback two-seater based on Coupé mechanicals, clothed in a curvaceous and lightweight body, styled by Ercole Spada of Zagato design house in Milan, known for the immortal Aston Martin DB4 Zagato; featuring an innovative narrow angle overhead cam V4 engine and double-wishbone independent suspension, the nimble Zagato-bodied cars proved themselves well in motorsport, scoring highly in events such as the Sebring 12 hours and the Daytona 24 hours. In 1972, a Fulvia won the International Rally Championship; ‘Road & Track’ magazine describing the Fulvia as "a precision motorcar, an engineering tour-de-force.”
The characterful 1298cc DOHC V4 engine acquitted itself extremely well, continuing all the way through into the Series 2 cars. The second series Fulvia Sport was launched at the 1970 Turin Motor Show and changes included a 5-speed gearbox, revised suspension geometry, an upgraded brake system (using larger Girling calipers with servo in place of the Dunlop brakes), taller ride height, an alternator (in place of the previous dynamo), a taller final drive (compared to coupés), and wider tyres. The body was now all-steel, welded to the monocoque for better rigidity, and seated 2+2 passengers.
This fabulous UK-supplied RHD S2 Lancia Fulvia Sport 1. 3S Zagato - Chassis No: the details below and Engine No: 80453 is an original 'Matching Numbers' car and it is allegedly one of only 30 Right-hand drive Zagato's that survive today and one of only 7 from 1972 currently licensed in the UK.
It is finished in its original colour scheme of unmarked Rosso Palermo with a beautiful Black interior, superb wooden dashboard and its original wooden steering wheel, its original 1298cc 4cyl Engine, 5 Speed Manual Gearbox, original 14" Lancia Steel Wheels, all original badges and excellent chrome-work.
The car was purchased and first registered in the UK on September 5th 1972 with number plate KKX 463L to its first owner, a Mr Dennis Thomas in Watford. After 13 years of ownership, he sold the car to a Mr Czarnecki from Chalfont St Giles in Buckinghamshire who kept the car for 29 years and for most of these 29 years it was in storage in his garage and not used until he decided to sell it at auction in 2014.
It was purchased in June 2014 by a well known car collector in Johannesburg, South Africa but it was never registered there and formed part of his large collection of cars. It was the subject of a very high quality repaint and mechanical overhaul by an Alfa Romeo specialist in Johannesburg in 2017, and as all the body panels and floor panels were completely original and rust-free, it only required repainting with no other body work repairs required. The remainder of the car including the whole interior, all exterior chromework and all mechanicals are completely original as well, but it did have a full mechanical checkover with a few new parts fitted along with a new Clutch, and both Solex Carburettors were overhauled.
We were advised earlier this year that the car was going to be sold as he was reducing the size of his collection, so we are very fortunate to have been able to purchase the car and bring it back to England. It has only covered a believed genuine 39, 963 miles from new and although we can't prove this, but we are confident, as are our workshops that this is completely genuine. We sent the car to Lancia specialist Omicron in Norfolk for a checkover and some re-commissioning works, which included fitting a new head gasket which was suspect and a full service was carried out costing £2, 888. 52.
It has only had the two owners in the UK from new and the one car collector in South Africa, although the car was never registered there. It is clear on all HPi Registers and the National Mileage Register and we have its current and valid V5 Registration Document still in Mr Czarnecki's name and issued by the DVLA in July 1985.
This car is in simply stunning condition throughout and its interior, which is all original is exceptional. It can genuinely be described as a near 'Concours' condition car and being a very, very rare RHD car, it is of course extremely collectible and its value will surely increase considerably in years to come.
Car just MOT'd on 25th May 2023 with No Advisories!
Car on display @ our showrooms in Mortlake, SW London.
