Seller's comments about 1965' Land Rover 2A 109

Land Rover Series 2a 109 built 1965.
Originally supplied new to Caffyn's garages of Kent & Sussex, it was immediately converted into a recovery vehicle by the addition of a Harvey Frost crane and ancilliaries, plus an attractive blue paint scheme with reflective coach lines. The rear overhang of the chassis and body were shortened to put the crane closer to the centre of mass for safer towing and a new bespoke rear cross member added. The engine is the standard 4-cylinder 2¼ petrol unit. The truck cab is complete with roof panel and all the glass is intact. It was used continuously by Caffyn's until 1995 when it was parked up and not used again. The Caffyn's group is still trading with a long heritage and may be able to add further history. With a full restoration this would make an amazing historic show vehicle.
The current owner acquired it in 2015 with the intention of restoring it and it has been in dry storage since. The body panels are generally OK with a couple of minor dings which should straighten out easily. However the chassis is very severely corroded and has needed supporting in the centre. Original wheels and tyres are all present including matching spare. The crane, bespoke cross member and some other components have been removed for ease of storage but the vehicle is 100% complete. The chassis, bulkhead/ door pillars, door tops, front bumper and fuel tank are all rusted beyond repair and will need replacing. The engine, gearbox and 4WD gear have not been tested. The vehicle comes with full current V5, previous V5 and original Buff log book from 1965.
Included in the sale is a useable S3 109" rolling chassis with Salisbury axle. Although not absolutely correct it could form the basis of a rolling restoration and has already been modified at the rear to accept the bodywork and crane.
