Seller's comments about 1954' Land Rover Series 1

This original UK built, matching numbers Land Rover has benefitted from a complete strip down of the chassis, body, engine, and gearbox. Wherever possible the original components have been used. A number of photos have been taken to show the level of work undertaken.

As with most of these cars some of the more valuable components had been removed and sold before I received the vehicle. These included, wiper motor, air filter, front side lights and rear lights. I have endeavoured to replace these items with what I believe are the correct specification for the 1954 build.

The chassis was sand blasted, checked for corrosion and where necessary new parts were welded into position. The chassis was then base coated with red primer and repainted the original Bronze Green colour.

All galvanized parts have been removed, re galvanized and re-rivetted to their respective positions.

The braking system benefits from all new hydraulic parts utilising the original back plates and brake drums. The front hubs and swivels have also been replaced.

The engine has had a crankshaft regrind and new piston rings together with new timing chain and tensioners. All oil paths have been carefully cleaned and checked. Due to the unavailability of reliable, original oil filters a new “canister” system has been installed.

The rear tub had to have a new floor fitted as it was beyond repair.

All of the body components have been reassembled using a complete nut, bolt, rivet, washer kit from “L. R. Fasteners” who excel in supplying, in individually sorted bags for each component being fitted, the correct original fasteners in their sherardized finish.

All other original mechanical components, bolts and parts have been cleaned de-rusted and rust treated before re-assembly. All other nuts and spring washers on the car are new.

A new full set of front seats together with a new dark green canvas hood (original colour), sourced from Essex Trim, have been installed.

The car has been road tested and is in working order.
