Large History File with receipts for rebuild, MOT history back to 1996 and receipts for general maintenance. We are delighted to present for sale this 1976 Series 3 Land Rover, which has been previously been subjected to a fairly comprehensive rebuild in the early 2000s. What sets this particular vehicle apart is that it has been rebuilt on a professionally produced, Series galvanised chassis which has been designed to accept coil springs and axles from a 90 Land Rover – this has a wealth of benefits, not least that the underside then becomes much more of a 90 than of a Series… so the suspension goes from being “pram like” to modern, and you also get the added benefit of front and rear disc brakes. This transforms the way the vehicle drives, without changing the styling at all. The build has also incorporated a galvanised bulkhead, which is often overlooked during a rebuild – so this vehicle can be enjoyed almost indefinitely without the concerns of corrosion, whilst still enjoying owning “a series” vehicle. This, of course, is made so much easier with the modern drivetrain to boot.Externally, this rebuild is finished in the fantastic Land Rover Keswick Green colour – this is a Defender 90 colour, but still looks fantastic on an earlier Series vehicle. It is presented in the popular soft top configuration, with rear side windows for passenger comfort and improved visibility. There are two spare wheels on this truck should you decide to tread a more rugged path – and the rear wheel is on a SwingAway wheel carrier to make getting in and out of the rear a doddle. There are flared arches to accomodate the fancy “Tornado” alloys and General Grabber tyres, which you will notice are slightly oversized to give a more relaxed driving experience. The recent galvanised front bumper, rear grab handles, rear mud flaps and vintage number plates are some notable period features… a tow bar with electrics is fitted to allow towing if so desired – Defender mirrors are fitted for better visibility and functionality. All in all, as the photos show, this is a handsome Series 3.The interior is presented in a similar fashion to the rest of the vehicle – well sorted, clean, tidy with a hint of upmarket luxury – there are two outer deluxe high back seats with a central cubby box with cupholders to the front, and the rear is very smartly fitted with 4x individual tip up rear seats for that premium feel. The tailgate opens sideways to afford easier passenger access. There is a seat belt bar fitted with roll over hoop, affording the front driver and passenger inertia reel belts. The front has been fitted out with a full rubberised deluxe matting set, which protects against scratches and damage, and provides an extra layer of sound insulation. The rear floor has been fitted with a rubber mat for easy cleaning and additional protection. The added bonus of a canvas with side windows provides a light and airy cabin whilst driving along, which is welcome. The rear tip up seats can be folded away to reveal the load space if the new owner plans to carry logs, coal, bikes or the dog without damaging the seats. A Pioneer Stereo with Bluetooth & USB (including 12v charging) is fitted with “Blaupunkt” Speakers mounted into the lower dash for the best possible sound quality. It is only when this vehicle meets tarmac that one realises what a masterstroke this conversion/ rebuild/ upgrade is. To those in the know, a Series is actually most commonly limited due to the suspension – not the steering, or the brakes, or anything else that you may have read in forums online. It is the crashing over bumps (which can be improved slightly with parabolic springs) that ultimately determines how long a journey you can tolerate. With this vehicle being of coil sprung design, it effectively becomes a completely modern suspension set up, and this is reflected in the ride and the handling – it really is transformative and gives the best of both worlds… the period look and vintage cool, but no-one needs to know that it is as comfy as a modern Defender! The larger than standard wheels increase the rolling radius and mean that the quiet petrol engine never really needs to break a sweat to get you where you need to go. With power disc brakes all round (all recently renewed), it stops as well as it goes. This ultimately creates a modern driving experience and makes the driver want to drive faster and further than most would consider practical in a Series Land Rover. In summary, this is an unusual and high spec Series vehicle – because of the galvanised chassis and bulkhead, it promises longevity without major interference whilst the host of upgrades gives a pleasant driving and ownership experience. Couple with this the vintage looks, tax and MOT exemption, premium interior and classic insurance costs and it all makes for a very sensible and attractive package.Priced at £27, 995
