Seller's comments about 1951' MG MG-TD Roadster

1951 MG TD description

This car was purchased back in 1950 by the current owner's uncle.

The car was driven regularly. When he passed away the car sat for a bit and then the niece got the car, got it back up and running and she and her husband drove it regularly, almost a daily driver through the three driving seasons here in CT. They did avoid rain but weren't afraid to take her out if it was. 12 years ago, they decided to pull her apart and restore her.

The ash frame was replaced with new ash, the metal body stripped down and repainted, the engine was pulled, cleaned up, valves done, the carbs rebuilt and the rest inspected and found to be solid. The transmission was rebuilt as was the rear axle and new lever shocks installed.

The wiring harness was pulled and replaced, the lamps and running lights were as well, LED turn signals out back along with a higher mounted third brake light were added for safety. (These are easily removed if not desired). The dash was refinished, the gauges were pulled and refinished, the seats reupholstered and new carpets installed.

She received new brakes, new master cylinder and new lines.

All chrome was replated (new bumpers were purchased), the top and side curtains were replaced with new and the wheels were powder coated. New tires, BFGoodrich Silvertown Radials were mounted to the new wheels.

This car starts right up, idles where she should and the valves are adjusted to .018 as suggested by the manual for higher rpm driving.

She drives wonderfully, just like a small British car should, the 4 speed manual snicks through the gears nicely as the RPMs rise to select the next gear. Despite no power steering or brakes, she drives easily and brakes firmly.

The engine is the original engine and has 51,963 miles. These are known to be correct, based on the familiarity with the car.

Other items added were the chrome luggage rack, a battery cut off switch and black paint undercoat.

The car also comes with a bunch of extra body panels- Fenders F&R, doors and door skins, extra stainless exhaust and gas tank sides.

There are two noted very small blemishes in the paint (seen in the photos) and some of the chrome has some very minor pits, but overall this is a show winning MG TD.

I'd call her strong #2, close to #1.

With that her value is felt to be at $25000
