This is an early (1950 build year) MG TD. It is an original RHD model and one of only 345 built by Motor Assemblies Durban in South Africa making it a rare version of the TD. It has been subject to an extensive restoration (completed 2022 and featured in 'The Automobile' magazine) and is in superb condition.

The history is known from the late 60s when it resided in Rhodesia. In the late 70s it was returned to South Africa, initially residing in the Johannesburg area before moving to Greyton near Cape Town. In 2000 it accompanied its then owner to the Isle of Man when he emigrated to the Island. The car was subsequently sold to the current owner and was registered in the UK.

The current owner undertook an extensive nut and bolt restoration over the period 2019-22. This has been covered by The Automobile magazine in their Back On The Road (BOTR) series in a 4 page article in the recent August 2022 issue. The car benefits from an extensive list of new parts and include: hood and hood frame, side screens and frames (inc. beaded trim strips); wiring loom; interior (inc. leather seats and trim); carpets; (new old stock) steering wheel; dashboard (with chrome edge trim); x5 tyres (wheels also powder coated); battery; stainless exhaust system; fuel pump; clutch; etc (the list is extensive). The fuel, ignition and brake systems have been redone with new parts and the suspension has been re-bushed. All wheel bearings have been replaced for new and it benefits from a changed CW&P ratio for better cruising whilst retaining the original 4 speed gearbox for originality. The wood frame has been replaced where required. There is no rust anywhere. The car is almost better than new! The oil pressure is around 60 when cold and 40 when warm. Minor issues are the tonneau cover is not perfect and the chrome hub caps are not all perfect – but these can be replaced by a new owner.

There is a complete photographic record of the rebuild; a lever arch folder (which is full) containing the history and receipts from the rebuild; two boxes of spares; and a workshop manual, handbook and electric wiring diagram. The car has now completed more than 2, 500 miles with the current owner. I am now looking for my next challenge/ project and would consider discussing exchange for a pre-war MG up to the same value. Please call or send a message if you would like to talk anything MG. Photos are available upon request, just let me know what part of the car or stage of the rebuild and I will happily respond.

The valuation for insurance purposes is £25, 000. I am open to realistic offers.
