Mini Sport - Limited Edition 1979 For those who know the history of the Mini, they know that there are rare versions that are difficult to find, either because of their antiquity or because of the reduced number of copies, such as the pre-series Austin/Morris 850 (manufactured from June 59 until September/October 59), or also the Mini Cooper 970 and 1071S (manufactured between 63 and 64), among others. But not only from English models lived the Mini, from 1968, the car began to be assembled also in Portugal, in the I.M.A. (Automotive Assembly Industry) in Setubal, and naturally, versions were sold exclusively on the domestic market, which are quite different from those found abroad. However, in 1979, the Mini phenomenon was already 20 years old, and special editions were made all over the world to commemorate this event. Portugal was no exception, and that was why Mini Sport (Portuguese version) was created. Developed from the bodywork of the Mini 1ooo, it had an extensive and desirable list of original extras that made it, in fact, very different. The wheels were the magnificent 6" "Cosmic" which were accompanied by "Wood&Picket" type mudguard flaps and the set was topped off by a pair of "Cibié" long-range headlights. Inside, the three-spoke steering wheel it had a wooden frame (Motolita or Raid, I'm not sure...), the seats were "backet" type and to complete the "racing" scenario, a "roll-cage" with four supports was mounted. the engine was a 1100 with a simple carburettor and the smoke came out of a double outlet "Speedwell" pan.The brakes are four pulleys, the same as the normal Mini 1000. They also brought the roof lined with vinyl. only 46 units left.
