“The Carl Swanson Morgan” 1964 Morgan Plus 4 Supersports spec. Rare Low-Line model Original Period Race Car, full provenance Most successful USA Race Morgan in period Fully rebuilt, new Engine FIA HTP until 2029 This handsome Morgan was delivered new in 1964 to Lew Spencer imports in California and was immediately raced in the West coast division of the SCCA by its first owner Carl Swanson. Swanson was very successful and won the West Coast E-production title back-to-back in 1965, 1966 and 1967. As a result, Swanson was invited 3 times for the annual end-of-season “American Road Race of Champions” between the various division winners. The 1965 edition was held at Daytona and Swanson came 2nd behind an Austin Healey. The 1966 edition was held at Riverside (Swansons home track), where he led 14 Porsches to the finish and was crowned National Champion. We dare to claim that the Swanson Morgan is the winningest Morgan in period US racing. The next owner on record was Ron Fedele who got involved in a crash and had the car rebuilt as an Alloy “Supersports Low-Line” after which the car became part of the Blackhawk Museum where it resided until the late 1980’s when it was freed from captivity by Don Queen of California Don commissioned a well-documented rebuild for Historic Racing by Chris Lawrence and raced the car all over the USA until sold to fellow Californian Doug Sallen. Don Queen and Doug Sallen raced the car without intermission until 2008 when the current owner acquired the car and became the 5th owner in 60 years. In 2020 the car was completely disassembled and rebuilt to perfection by Soldeo in the Netherlands. Special attention was given to lightening the car to the homologated weight of 760 kgs. Since then, the car was only raced at Le Mans Classic in 2022 and 2023 and in the Peter Auto sixties endurance series at Mugello and Spa.
