Cruisin Classics is prouud to present the most recent entry to our showroom this 1954 Pontiac Chieftain. This Pontiac is a very original car and has been resprayed its original colors of Seneca Brown with White top at some point in the past. The paint has held up well and is still in decent driver condition. The Chieftain has a great look up front with an 8 wide chrome hood strip that serves as a runway for the light-up Chief Pontiac hood ornament that rests above a red, white and blue Pontiac emblem. Beneath the hood are a large, wrap-around chrome grill and bumper, both of which are starting to show their age a little with pitting and some flaking of the chrome. The headlights that flank the grill are surrounded by chrome bezels in good condition. Running the entire length of each side of the car is a horizontal chrome strip that dips behind the door, widens, and flows across the fender skirts to the rear bumper incredibly cool styling. Around back, the trunk lid features the same center accent strip and emblem as the hood as well as a chrome bumper in better condition than the one in front. Even the gas filler door on the drivers side was given a special chrome accent piece styling the likes of which you certainly dont see today. Supporting the cool body lines is a set of steel wheels with full moon Pontiac hubcaps wrapped in BF Goodrich Silvertown wide white wall tires that really complete the look. Under the hood of this Pontiac is what we believe to be the original 4.4 liter 268ci straight 8 cylinder engine. The engine bay looks very stock, simplistic, and tidy. The inline 8 is topped with a 2-barrel carburetor with automatic choke and was originally rated at 127 hp. The car still runs on a 6 volt system and has an Optima battery with a battery tender. This Chieftain is a manual steering, manual brake car with drums on all four corners. Opening the drivers door youre greeted by a very nice grey original style interior. The comfortable bench seats are dressed in a cloth and vinyl combo with no rips, splits, or stains. The grey carpet is in very good condition and features Pontiac logo floormats. The headliner is tight and in good condition. Door cards and kick panels look great and match the grey interior design perfectly. The grey painted OEM dash looks fantastic with original working gauges and the large and ornate steering wheel with horn ring and Chief Pontiac emblem at the center. On the steering column is the shift lever for the Dual Range Hydra-Matic 4-speed Transmission. This transmission was somewhat revolutionary for its time. It offered Low and Dr options on the indicator but on either side of DR was an arrow indicator. The arrow to the right of Dr is the city or traffic range, which keeps the transmission in third gear for better acceleration and engine braking when driving in heavy traffic. The left arrow is the country or highway setting, and allows the final shift into fourth gear for peak fuel economy and quieter cruising. Also in the dash are controls for the windshield wipers, heat and fan controls (inop.), and an original AM radio that has been professionally converted to an AM/FM radio using new internals. The radio works and sounds great coming through 4 Pioneer speakers (2 in the kick panels, 2 on the rear package tray). Inside the glovebox youll find the original owners manual as well as many California registration cards from the original owner up through 1971 a really cool bonus! Around back is a very original looking trunk with a bias-ply spare tire, factory jack, and what appears to be the original floor mat. If youre in the market for a very original old-school cruiser with beautiful styling and a bullet-proof drive-train then youll want to take a long, close look at this Chieftain! Its turn-key ready to hit the road to the next cruise-in right away! If you have any additional questions, please call one of our friendly sales staff.
