The classic Porsche 911 was developed as a much more powerful, larger, more comfortable replacement for the Porsche 356, the company’s first production model. The new car made its debut at the 1963 Frankfurt motor show; the car presented at the auto show had a non-operational mock up of the 901 engine, only receiving a working unit in February 1964. It was originally designated as the Porsche 901 (901 being its internal project number) but only 82 cars were built as 901’s. Peugeot, nationalistic as always, protested on the grounds that in France it had exclusive rights to car names formed by three numbers with a zero in the middle. So, instead of selling the new model with another name in France, Porsche changed the name to 911 and its production begun in September 1964, the first 911’s reached the U. S in February 1965 with a price tag of $6, 500. Chassis 11810531 is a rare example of the 911L – the rarest of all 911’s as it is believed to be one of only four L models 911’s delivered to the UK in 1968. A total of only 449 Porsche 911L’s were ever produced, the majority of which were for export to the united states. When the 911 became available to the U. S markets due to emission regulations the L toopk its place at the top of range. The L name stood for late model, featuring the same 130 horsepower as the original 911 and the 911L was the most expensive of the 911’s at the time. This 911L has been in the same ownership since 2012 and has always received an exceptional level of care with no expense spared. This is a highly original example, matching numbers supplied with a patina to die for. The interior presents in excellent original condition and the vehicle is supplied with its original books, its original Porsche toolkit, jack and compressor, Porsche COA and an accompanying history file. This is undoubtedly a unique opportunity to purchase one of the rarest early models Porsche supplied new to the United Kingdom, its in beautiful condition with all of its original accessories in situ. As a 1 of 4 RHD SWB 911L in this condition, supplied with this provenance the quest to find another is almost impossible.
