Seller's comments about 1972' Porsche 916

Export 56 are please to offer for sale a beautifully presented Porsche 916 recreation which is quite frankly one of the most exhilarating road/ track early Porsche’s we have seen for a while.
This particular and unique 914 was upgraded to 916 inspired specification over a 12 year period by Classic Porsche specialists, Gantspeed at considerable cost. Further significant investment by the current owner in a 3. 6 993 engine mated to a 915 gearbox gives a quite spectacular end result.
The 916 is the perfect Porsche for Track days, European Tours and Rallies which it excels at!
HISTORY OF THE 916
The Porsche 916 seems inconspicuous at first glance, but it is one of the greatest rarities of the Porsche brand, as only 11 examples were produced in 1971/ 1972. All of them are prototypes that had a unit price of 40, 000 DM.
Series production never took place and the eleven prototypes were sold. Five of them remained in the Porsche and Piëch family, others were sold to loyal Porsche customers in Germany and one was exported to the USA. Whoever got one is under wraps. However, two Porsche 916s, which were originally used by the Piëch family, went under the hammer at auction.
A 1971 Porsche 916, the prototype “Brutus”, once driven by Corinna Piëch, was offered at Artcurial in Paris in February 2019 under lot number 124 and found a new owner for 928, 000 euros. A year later, the 916 from 1972 with the final serial number 011 followed at the RM Sotheby’s auction in Punta Gorda, which took place on August 15, 2020. Lot number 151, a yellow 916 with special equipment, was previously driven by Ferdinand Piëch’s mother Louise and found a new owner for $957, 000. The whereabouts of the other nine vehicles remain confidential.
CHASSIS NUMBER: the details below
An Original 1972 Porsche 914 went to Gantspeed Engineering in July 1996 for recommissioning, the car was fitted with a 2. 4T engine and 916 arches. Over the following 6 years the project evolved into a bare shell restoration and 916 recreation build. The owner had invested circa £70, 000. 00 in the project which included the purchase of 1974 Carrera engine and 3. 2 Carrera based 915 transmission purchased from Patrick Motorsports.
In September 2002 Gantspeed purchased the project and final completed the build in April 2008. During the 6 years build carried out by Gantspeed a further £128, 000 was invested in the car brining this fantastic car to completion.
This car has been slowly recreated over the years. Robert Gant of Gantspeed Engineering originally had this car in for recommissioning as a customer car. When the project got out of control RG purchased the car from his customer and then had it as a long term work shop project, eventually finishing it in 2008.
The car was then purchased by a Ferrari collector who loved it but never used it. On his death his collection of cars went to DK engineering for selling on. I purchased the car directly from DK in 2015.
The current owner purchased the car to take part in European Tours/ Rallies which it excels at. The car was fitted by Gantspeed with an original 2. 7 RS engine (225bhp/ 199lbs/ ft), which was fine but really lacked the torque required for the Alpine passes, so with a mad rush of blood to the head he changed the engine out for a 3. 6 993 engine 280bhp/ 280lbs/ ft, which sorted the problem out in a car weighing only 943 kgs.
