The Porsche 924 was born from a joint project between VW and Porsche, through the sales and marketing departments of both brands to create a sports car to succeed the 914 and 912E. It was produced by Porsche at the Neckarsulm factory (Germany) from 1976 to 1988, always in the form of a 2+2 Coupé. It was the first road-going Porsche to be water-cooled and with a front-engine configuration and rear-axle transmission with rear-wheel drive, the famous transaxle configuration. The base engine used was the VW EA831 2.0L 4-cylinder block, although modified by Porsche, particularly in terms of the engine head. In this Turbo version, Porsche also changed the crankcase, connecting rods, head gasket, crankshaft and a completely new head made of aluminum and silicon alloy. It is indeed a VW engine but with a Porsche touch. The gearbox (the robust G31 type with 915 parts) now has 5 ratios and a dogleg configuration, that is, first gear in reverse. The transaxle platform has always been known for its excellent weight distribution between axles and in the turbo version it was even more optimized: 49/51% between the front and rear axles. To help with the cooling required when using the turbocharger, an air intake was fitted to the bonnet. NACA to help exhaust hot air when stationary while allowing better air cooling for the engine compartment when moving. Additionally, 4 front air intakes and lower slots were added to cool the front brakes. This first version of the 924 Turbo has a power of 170hp at 5500rpm, with a maximum torque of 245Nm at 3500rpm, achieving 0-100km/h in 7.0sec. and a maximum speed of 225km/h. The final weight was 1180kg. This Porsche 924 Turbo unit has the original launch configuration, with two two shades of green: Inari Silver Metallic (L94A) (top) / Onyx Green Metallic (bottom) separated by the black stripe, also this painted. The interior has the original (and exotically charming and psychedelic, we add) Pascha Brown. It is certified by the Caramulo Museum and was fully restored in terms of metalwork and painting around 4 years ago by the current owner; Engine working perfectly, new tires, original Becker car radio. A rare example in launch configuration.
